It is time to fire Flus

What more do you need to see? How many more games are going to lose because of coaching? No team pulls losses from the jaws of victory like the Bears. This one, at home, against your supposed #1 rivals, for a chance to stay in the playoff hunt. Instead you lose in another miserable fashion to lose your 4th straight.

Btw, GB blocked a FG kick last week to win, so you had to know they were good at it and should not have taken any risks with a long kick, but what do I know.

I am so sick of Flus, more than any coach that I can remember. Loved Lovie, didn't mind Nagy, just didn't like his play calling, but Flus is on a whole nother level of suck. We are now in Year 3 of the rebuild that looks like Year 1.

Actually it's well past time. But if they can't see the obvious this franchise is in more trouble for a long time coming.

We just keep getting more confirmation, but this was already obvious in January. He is awful.

The question at hand is not really whether Poles will fire him, but do we want Poles picking his replacement?

At this point, there are 7 games to evaluate everyone, except Flus. There is nothing else to learn about him. However, it would be interesting elevating some of the other coaches to see what they can do. Obviously, Brown was ready. No harm in elevating someone else to interim HC to get experience while a lower coach moves up to fill void.

It is not like continuity is a good thing in this case as it has resulted in the worst 3 year stretch in franchise history.

A bears GM will NEVER have that much power.  Kevin Warren will never have that power either.  It's like when a mob boss looks at his cappo and says "you know what to do".  McCaskey style...

The Poles/Flus era -

The most losses over any 3-year period in franchise history is 34 losses, achieved 3 times.

The current abortion of a team would have to go 3-4 in their final 7 games just to tie that futility. 2-5 or worse and they are the worst "era" team in franchise history.

They have to clean house. As good as some think Poles is, he is not. You can't miss on that many mid round picks, and use so much money on non-critical positions (Edmunds) and expect to win.

One last nugget. The records of the teams the Bears have lost to and beaten this season below. They have 5 games against teams with 7 or more wins and 2x games against 5-5 teams. If everything stays the same, the Bears will win no more than 1 more game and finish at 5-12 (at best).

7-4
7-3
6-4
6-4
5-6
3-8
----------
5-5 (injured Rams team, no Puka or Kupp)
3-7
2-8
2-9

I think that had a couple small things changed, we would have beaten the Packers this week.

I don't think we will lose the rest of our games. I think we will be underdogs in them, but I think our team is chaotic.

And that's probably right given the amount of talent on the roster - and again it just points to poor coaching. We have a lot of the ingredients we would need to win these games, but the chef doesnt know the recipe.

We could win more games than you expect, but it had better not be a reason to keep the staff. Grrrrr

It’s the fact that we have talent and if Caleb is progressing and Rome is progressing that I can say we are trending up across the board. That makes me think Poles gets another shot

He'd better not pussy out and get another polite coach. If he does that, then Calebs entire career as a Bear is wasted.

Without any knowledge of the other GM candidates out there, and not based on enough info to make a truly informed choice, my gut is to fire Poles, and promote Cunningham and keep the scouting departments the same as they are.

I kinda feel like Poles what forced to hire this guy.. didn't they give him a list of people they interviewed before they hire poles.. Didn't take long for him to hire Flus...which tells me he didn't have a real chance at interviewing anyone else..   But I could be wrong.. Either way I'm not terribly impressed with poles.. I was excited about him when get got here.. that has passed.

Totally agree, but when he kept him last year, then it became his decision.

He is going to be gone at the end of the year. You realize had we won, it would be another + in Poles eyes for keeping him. Caleb played better today, Brown had a more comfortable offensive plan to fit Caleb's progress and we almost won. Clearly the players have bought back in to Flus at least for 1 game.

Here is Poles X account if you would like to message him yourself to let him know your opinion. I have DM him 3 times and the only respond I got was when I gave him a cudos for keeping Flus. (my mistake) Im sure one of his his assitants runs his accout but I did get one response lat winter.

Poles has plus and minuses during his time here. He took over a terrible cap space and roster to get us in his 3rd yr wanting to fire everyone because we think we should have been in a playoff spot. He got rid of Fields and drafted Caleb knowing that would affect the win total. He could have keep Fields and traded back the first pick to fix the OL and add a few studs on the DL.

The extra first round pick could have got a starting LT leaving Jones as a swing T (depth). With a extra second round drafted Zack Fraiser/OC. He brought in Coleman , Bates and Pryor to fill in the depth with the injuries. Kiran could have sat and got healthy and to  take Jenkins spot next year. Another stud on the DL and we would have 2 or 3 more wins.

Who knows who Poles will bring in is a big question mark but after 3 yrs, he has to know what he will need for his QB. First time GMs always has growing pains, but I think he's a smart guy and will get it right this time..

Nah. Winning a game despite mistakes isnt the same as not making mistakes. Flus makes a ton of them. Winning 1 or even 5 games doesn't change the fact that he is terrible with situational football.

I am learning to understand you. I see you are always loyal and always an optimist. You always root for the guys on the team to succeed.

I'm rooting for the what's best for the team too. And once I see a player or a coach isn't good or has some problem I want it fixed or replaced for the good of the team, whereas you want them to win some games so we can say they are no longer broken.

For example, if injury had forced Nate Davis back out on the field, and he'd had a good game that wouldnt make me think the problem was solved. Id still know we need to move on from him. If Jenkins plays the rest of the season without injury, I still cant sign him as my starter and depend on him next year.

Sometimes once someone shows you who or what they are, a few contrary performances wont change the underlying truth.

You say the team bought into Eberflus this week. I say they rallied because Waldron was gone and bought into each other. And it worked. The team beat the Packers.

Then Flus got scared and didnt run another play to get the FG closer, the kick was necessarily low as a result of that overly cautious decision, and the Packers were able to block it because of that.

So Flus lost the game that the team won. Again.

He's not a plus for Poles. I said in the offseason that Flus was not the guy. It was already obvious, and not just to me of course. We saw him blow those 3 games last year with over cautious play at the end. Same with the hail mary. Same with the 50 yard TD run at the end of the half last week.

Keeping Flus was a mistake, and it was easy to see that back in January. This isn't a case of 20/20 hindsight.

So no, Poles doesn't avoid criticism of that insane decision. Apparently Warren was arguing with him about it. And Poles was too loyal to Flus. So now Poles' butt is on the line too. And I don't want him choosing the next head coach. Get that wrong and you lose everything.

I dont want the friendliest guy in the room, or the tamest. I want someone to bring discipline and accountability to this team. You cant win without it.

So I dont just want to fire Flus, I want to fire Poles too. Not that he necessarily deserves it, or was that bad, but his decision to keep Flus was a big mistake, and now you need someone to make the call on the next guy, and you cant give that to a guy who just screwed it up so monumentally. Poles bears some responsibility for Getsy and Waldron too by the way.

I'd roll with a promoted Ian Cunningham, and keep the scouting staff together, and start over with the coaches. Find the right head coach, and let HIM bring in his OWN coaches.

No coach in the NFL has lost more one score games over the last 3 years than Eberflus (2-6 this year). The best winning pct in those games? O'Connell. One coach coaches to win, the other tucks his junk.

Rooting for my team to lose and everyone look bad is shortsighted as a fan. You wanted Flus gone last year, you were right on him being bad but he wasnt. If you find joy in us losing and every everyone looking bad is your thing, good luck with that. I dont live my life that way. I supported Fields last yr, even thou I noticed his flawes, because he was our QB. I am very happy now we have Caleb and hope of a top 5 QB but I like when we win. i was at a B-GB party with 12 people/half and half fandom. As we we went up in the game, I have been programmed to think something might happen at the end of the game. I dont look it as  a reward because I was right.

Most Bears fans are numb this by now. So I can understand every range of emotion and don't blame people who want to cheer for a win or a loss at this point. It won't change the outcome on the field.

In recent years, we have just 1 winning season in last 12, 8 double digit loss seasons, and only 1 double digit win season (2018). So if you are 20 yrs old or younger, that is all you probably know in your fandom, which is quite sad. I at least remember 85 and 2006, but we are about to be 18 yrs since the last time the Bears were in the SB. We deserve better.

Amen.  And I really believe the McCaskeys are making it much more difficult for us to win.  I imagine they have more influence than we know.  The level of failure noted above is staggering.
