Ron Rivera would be a disastrous hiring for the Bears as a HC. Another defensive retread who can't hire coordinators. He's also publicly stated his support for Jayden Daniels over Caleb Williams. You can't put that genie back in the bottle.

If it's not a Rooney rule thing, then it's a useless "favor" interview, as DABEARSDABOMB previously stated.  

You are spot on - has to be favor/rooney rule. I believe Brown doesn’t count toward the rule but I thought he was one of the first to interview. 
 

Any coach currently under contract (in playoffs or not) can only be virtually interviewed. This gets them one step closer. I suspect we will see everything speed up when McCarthy officially comes out of contract - because it’s at that point where I think the Bears next push happens (including waiting for Johnson).

I think 20th is when any current coach or coordinator under contract can interview in person.

I gotta say i really liked the idea of him as Head Coach. I'm sad to see him off the list.

I predict the Patriots will do well under his leadership. Wish it was us.

Upon review, the rule is you have to interview two external minority candidates, and they have to be in-person. So, Thomas Brown wouldn't count. That would explain why the Patriots interviewed Pep Hamilton and Byron Leftwhich. I wasn't aware it changed to 2. Means they need another one of these sham interviews to fast track the hire, if that's what they want to do.

Just seen a story where it was reported the bears want to interview Marcus Freeman. That's all bullshi. He just signed a 34 mil extension on his contract. These people just say anything and think bear fans will believe it.

There's no fast track if we want Johnson until he loses a game. Probably SB

I meant that they could fast track his hiring should they lose next week, or whenever that is. It's better to get the procedural crap out of the way as soon as possible so another team can't offer him the job before you can.

After the NE job is taken, I believe we are next best option. But they need a backup plan just in case. Only 4 jobs out there left.
