He's worked with 3 high level QB's and played a huge part in 2 of theirs success (huge part of Rodgers & Dak had his best years under Mike). He's won a superbowl - made the playoffs a ton - high winning percentage. Yes - he has some issues that maybe keep him from being great, but its not like Jerry is the best in the world either. Bottom line - they could do a lot worse. McCarthy has a good floor and I'd feel pretty good about Caleb's development...maybe in 4 years you need to move on from Mike to someone who can take them to next level -but I think Mike would put Caleb and the rest of the team on a pretty good path forward. I also think he's pretty good at bringing on good assistants. These are all reasons why Carroll is my leading choice. (He’d be #2 after Bill Cowher - I wish). He’s got that background you talk of and managed success at both the collegiate and pro level. Having been to the Super Bowl in 2 consecutive years (winning one) and taking Seattle to the playoffs numerous times he knows how to get it done. And for what it’s worth he has ties to USC both historically and currently with him recently taking on a teacher role for the school. My one concern with him is has the game passed him by? I was a fan of hiring Fox but for whatever reason he couldn’t get traction in Chicago after doing some good work in Carolina and Denver. Not a fan at all of hiring another “hot” coordinator. We’ve been burned (I’m aware of the pun) too many times consecutively by that. And Vrabel hasn’t really proven he’s capable of doing a whole lot other than look intimidating. His biggest knock to me is he’s from the Belichick coaching tree and so far no one from that group has shown great promise individually. AZ54
Kudos to the Bears for forcing the Cowboy's hand with McCarthy. Regardless if our interest was legit, part of the search is understanding the competition and they forced Dallas to show their hand early. With their roster makeup and Jones' deep pockets that was a legit concern. Now there are 3 decent HC openings and how you count "decent" varies depending on what you think of Trevor Lawrence and JAX, NE and Drake Maye. You've got to figure Vrabel is at or near the top of the list in NE along with Ben Johnson. Does Johnson really want to go to JAX? Is this now a 2 team and 2 horse race for the top candidates? If so that gives the Bears more time to be thorough and see if there are any rising stars that intrigue them.

The real candidates must be shaking their heads. Not a good look. Just stupid... Agree. If you believe a guy is Lombardi or Papa Bear, you interview him. You don’t set up interviews with ten other dudes for practice.

It’s like having Jordan, Kobe, and Pippen standing next to Bill Cartwright and considering whether or not Bill is interested in playing on your 3-man basketball team. Stinger226
So is this Warren's influence in the process? Last time we had a limited number and George gave Poles 3 to choose from. It seems like their they are trying to find the diamond in the rough instead of picking out of the top 5 candidates and buying one. Vrabel seems most likely to go to NE because of his history. Johnson probably knows who he wants but we can't get him until after the playoffs. So are we going to process our way out of the top choices?
