End of Season Pressers...

Please watch the press conferences from McCaskey, Warren and Poles.  OMG George is such a buffoon.  He literally started his presser by thanking Matt Eberflus.  Listen to Poles when asked about pressure placed on Caleb.

Add the fact that we are interviewing thirteen HC candidates, shows that George is still involved, regardless of what he says.  Vrabel and Johnson have to be scratching their heads.  There are guys on the list I've never heard of.  I'm certainly scratching mine.  Shit show is our floor, while mediocre is the ceiling, as long as it smells like George...

It really is sad.  A prevailing thought I had this season before I quit watching the games was that there is far too much talent on this roster to be this bad.   That is both on the players for not playing up to their potential but a lot of it is on coaches for not being able to get the most out of their players.  The Bears always like to talk about how good the culture is but in reality the culture seems ok with mediocrity and losing.  I see a highly talented team playing very undisciplined football which tells me there has been no real accountability or setting a high expected standard.

At this point I firmly believe that George can't help himself when it comes to meddling.  The only reason Eberflus's name should come up in a post season presser is to note that he was fired because he was bad at his job.  For once can this franchise be honest and call a spade a spade and not try to sugar coat it like their fan base is just a bunch of homers that will believe whatever they are told?  Dude should have been fired last offseason.  We always do things so backwards here.  Last offseason would have been a perfect time to reset the coaching staff.  Now Caleb will go into year 2 after a disastrously chaotic year one.  He will have a new HC, new OC, QB coach etc.  He'll be back to square one.  As a longtime fan I have diminishing faith we'll ever get that right baring dumb luck.  The Bears could write the definitive book on "How to ruin or kill your QB." Caleb's success going forward will depend highly on who the coaches will be and how resilient he is as a player and if he can put this past year behind him.

And there will be 8 people in the room while interviews takes place. Now days, you have to make every one feel included.

I don't mind interviewing a large list, but get them out if the way before the real targets.

I have no problem with the owner thanking someone who worked for him for his time and effort even if he was fired for cause.  George can be inept at football but he doesn't have to be classless.  Someone else is going to get this job and they shouldn't be wondering if they'll be the next one to get s#%@ on publicly in 3 years.  I personally feel that treating people with respect regardless of circumstances carries through an entire organization and that includes the players and other coaches who are about to get fired.  The world already knows Eberflus failed no need to dig the knife in further.

I don't think there will be 8 people in the interview room but it sounds like there will be 8 people involved at various points in the interview.  Just to hire one person at my job they have to get interviewed by 5 people.  Candidates for a manager role can get interviewed by 7 people including those who will report to them.  While that may sound odd the post interview discussions are always enlightening because each person tends to focus on different aspects of a job and I always get a different perspective on a candidate that I didn't see in my interview.  Or I'm the one who is a hard "no".

Regardless, the problem for me is who those 8 people are and what they personally bring the interview table.  Since the entire coaching staff is getting fired who are the 8?  George, Kevin, Ryan, and maybe scouting department leaders... ?   Poles already stated he's letting Ian go off and focus on his own interviews.

The owner should only have right of refusal and even that should be for an extreme issue like a past history of drug or legal problems.  The owner absorbs all liability so IMO that's fair.  Get the DEI crap out of the way.  Anyone who has played sports knows that teams become inclusive when they win.

Kevin Warren does not know football, just sports management.  He needs to be a sideline player in terms of the football aspect but I also don't mind his perspective on their leadership qualities after meeting with the candidates.

I think this is all correct. I dont really see a problem with the process so far. Some of the interviews are fact finding, some are favors, like Kafka, who isnt getting hired, but it increases his perceived value by getting the interview. Doing favors and playing that social game can help us down the road too, so i dont begrudge it - especially since it's slow right now, and you cant meet a lot of the leading candidates face to face until the 20th.

I mean, yes, if you want Vrabel, then just grab him before someone else does - but if they want to go through the process, or do due diligence on johnson for example, then this is all OK.

All that really matters is getting the right guy at the end.

Poles gave the list of the interview panel, pasted below.  I have zero clue how they say Poles will have the final say, when Warren would not endorse Poles when asked if the potential coach wanted his own GM.  It was almost like the "Rex is our QB moment".

Bears GM Ryan Poles said that he “will lead a six-person interview panel” as the team works to hire a new coach, according to Jason Lieser of the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. The panel will consist of Poles -- who will have “final say on the coach” -- President Kevin Warren, Chair George McCaskey, Dir of Football Administration Matt Feinstein, Senior Player Personnel Dir Jeff King and EVP/People and Culture & Chief Human Resources Officer Liz Geist.

Exactly, doing it all wrong again.  Keeping Poles is a mistake and McCaskeys are obviously still involved, which equals doom.  How did a great city and fans get absolutely screwed with such an absolutely incompetent and weak ownership?  The press conference proves what a joke it all is, it’s a big Ship of Fools.

every professional sport franchise in chicago is the same. incompetent.

the bulls, sox, cubs. reihnsdork is as bad if not worse than mccaskey's. it dates back to the halas's/mccaskey's, wriggley, comiske to bidwell (the owner of the chicago cards). it's hard to comprehend. if you want the worst ownership, chicago is the place.
