Saints Dennis Allen is a likely DC

It's not signed sealed or delivered yet, but it sounds like Dennis Allen is our likely DC. He's been a head coach twice, so it's not likely he will get another head coaching job soon.

He's an aggressive coach who wont sit back in zone all the time. We will live and die by this, but at least our players will get the chance to compete and dominate.

Here's an article about his scheme that goes pretty deep in details.

I think he is a good hire if it happens. I like aggressive coaches. I wonder if they're any players that played for him available in free agency? Do you think he would consider Tom Brown as a assistant coach? Not OC but QB coach, he was doing fine with Caleb until he was made to be HC.

yeah, I am sick of always sitting back in a zone on 3rd down. if you have a fearsome front four, that can work, but then again anything works in that case.

I love having a former HC and strong and aggressive DC around. He led some real good defenses under Sean Payton despite Saints always pouring a ton of resources into the offense.

Plus I just like how Ben has the swagger and comfort to have strong coaches like this around him.

Don’t mind Brown and think he will end up getting a head coaching job one day - but I think Bears need to move on from him. Let Johnson bring in his own guys.

having a former HC to advise a rookie HC is a great idea. Also I like that he is so aggressive. Im SO sick of sitting back in a zone on 3rd down. We will get burned sometimes too, but at least the players can compete. He also has a rep for getting into QBs heads, and he has been especially successful against Brady, so thats a good sign too.

Having to play a more aggressive defense in practice will be good for Caleb too. It wont all be text book zones.

Yeah you have to. The days of the Bears front office thinking they know best have GOT to be over.

Asking about Tom Brown working here refers to Johnson wanting him here, the brass interfering in hires is over. I suggest seeing he worked with Caleb in a positive way may incite Johnson to hire him as a QB coach?

Sounds like bears have to interview some candidates before this can be official. But Allen is known as an aggressive DC - pretty blitz heavy with exotic schemes.

Chase Young had a bounce back season - finished the year real strong. Could be an option to help with pass rush and if Bears get Allen and Saints special teams guy they at least should know whether he’s worth it or not (say a 2hr deal since I don’t think Chase was good enough to get a huge long term deal).

I dont think its a matter of him being good so much as teaching Johnson's way of thinking, and i have no reason to think brown is familiar with Johnson's style, terminology and approach?

Obviously if Johnson wants him, I'm all for it - whoever he wants. But DBDB is right, it has to be Johnson's call from the beginning

yeah one of the benefits of new coaches is what they know about players on other teams for sure. And coaches especially. I expect Johnson to bring in a top notch OL coach. That will make a huge difference for us. Johnson really knows run blocking schemes, and has successful run blocking rules, and we have been trash at that for a long time.

I seen where someone mentioned the OL coach of Lions as the new OC. It would be a promotion and Ben is calling the plays anyway. Never heard of a OL becoming a OC before.

I would personally love it if they hired Fraley as our OC.  All pro center who coached an all pro center.  Gimme Dennis Allen too.
