BearFan PHX
and now Rappaport and Gabriel have it too. COOL. He will be great for us. EDIT: and now Scheffter has it too.
BearFan PHX
also announced is Declan Doyle as OC. He is basically Johnson's assistant. We need good OL and DL hires now.

As such I don’t hate it but was hoping for more experience. The dude is 28!

If Johnson trusts him to put the work in and get the details right that's all I need to know.

To both posts: yup. No really strong candidate was going to come here to be in Johnson's shadow, and not call plays. So we got an energetic guy to be Johnson's assistant. He wont be going anywhere anytime soon anyway so cool. Just gotta hope he and QB coach JT Barrett are good in Calebs ear along with Johnson's input. ASHKUM BEAR
Glad to see the DC is official now. The next most important hire now is the Oline coach. We need a scheme that works.

This offseason is so critical with Caleb already heading into year

Doyle is super young - Johnson is clearly running the show but Doyle had least has a few years learning from a legend like Payton.

Hes a little older, but I dont know the guy, maybe thats fine. I do know that in his prime he has coached up some very good offensive linemen. And did you see the list of pass rushers that have been drafted by teams while Dennis Allen was DC or head coach? WOW.

Yeah Dennis Allen was a huge get. Doyle seems like a bright young coach - didn’t realize he is also Ditkas nephew (if the reports are true). For example, his wiki page has a section under family, and it identifies his dad as having been strength and conditioning coach at iowa. Youd figure the Ditka thing would be there too? But nothing. Also, I found something ont he internet claiming he was William the Refrigerator Perry's nephew too LOL I think people like swifty got hoodwinked by the same pranksters that had Dennis Allen to the Bears a few days ago on wiki and the name of some poster on another board like this one as the source LOL Like I promise you, I will never have any breaking news that I personally heard from Halas Hall LOL It will never happen! BUt back in reality, he is well thought of and experienced. Might be a little early for OC, but then again he is really asst OC, and thats perfect. I did see it in one article…the son of the old Iowa strength and conditioning coach is true though - that guy was a total stud at Iowa but got into trouble in the end (I’m an Iowa fan and Doyle was a huge part of how they did so well despite having so many 2-3 star recruits). Like I said before, i expect Ben Johnson's knowledge and instinct far surpasses mine, and if he likes the guy, then i do too. And what a refreshing change it is to actually trust a Bears coach. Long time since i did.
BearFan2000
I'm liking what I'm seeing as this coaching staff is coming together. I admit being worried about the sheer number of people interviewed and many on that list being awful options that George was going to again tie Poles hand and we'd not get a highly touted prospect like Johnson and end up with someone I'd have to convince myself to be ok with. Johnson is a first time Head Coach but he's coming from a winning culture and knows what a real NFL offense looks like. He does not seem to suffer from the "smartest guy in the room syndrome" We've had way too much of that. He strikes me as a guy who sets the bar high and expects a lot out of his players and pushes them. Now again, this is all on paper and till we see it on the field we won't know. What I'm looking for is not just how things go this coming season but can we have sustained success. Remember Nagy came in in 2018 and the team took a leap and we thought the future looked bright, but we know how that turned out. Johnson is inheriting a lot of talent on this roster that's been miss managed so I could see a vast improvement in year one. It's year two and beyond that will tell if he is the right man for the job. Love the Allen hire as DC as well. The key as others have pointed to is that the OL and DL coaches will be critical. Especially the OL. We have got to fix the OL or we're not going to go anywhere. We need better coaching, and better talent. IMO Poles has to get this right this offseason between the draft and FA. We cannot keep doing the patchwork plan it hasn't worked and it will not work. If Caleb has any chance to see his full potential here this has to get fixed or at least greatly improved. Lucky Luciano
in my estimation this is the dream team in coaching. we have a HC who is the best choice of what was out there. That has happened only once in my memory and that was wanny. wanny didn't work out but at the time he was the best choice. add johnson the best offensive option with the best DC available who has HC experience and is considered the best or close to it DC available and we should be set on both sides of the ball. also allen is in all probability not jumping into a HC job after a year like some coordinators would have. we FINALLY have two coaches that can move this franchise into the 21st century. if it works out we should be superbowl contenders within 2 years. Mongo3451 Posted yesterday at 01:46 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 01:46 AM Love this from Allen. "WE WANT TO BE AN ATTACKING, AGGRESSIVE STYLE OF DEFENSE. WE WANT TO TAKE THE FIGHT TO THE OFFENSE AND NOT LET THE OFFENSE DICTATE THE TEMPO TO US. WE'RE GOING TO BE AGGRESSIVE, WE'RE GOING TO CHALLENGE VERYTHING WE'RE GOING TO PLAY THE GAME THE RIGHT WAY, WE'RE GOING TO PLAY A TOUGH, PHYSICAL BRAND OF FOOTBALL, I THINK THE BRAND OF FOOTBALL YOU COME TO EXPECT AT THE CHICAGO BEARS."
