We trade for Joe Thuney

I always think of G as the easiest line position to flip from side to side.  Am I wrong about that?

Jackson played all 3 spots last year. He will be the one to move.

1115 snaps

0 sacks

1 penalty

25 pressures

That's what an all pro looks like.

So we added 16 mil and 11.8 mil.How many more are we dishing out?

Actually both could be gone next year with the money. I suspect a new contract for Thuney to lower his cap hit.

That would be amazing but not sure they pay another 12.5 mil for Dalman. I think they have something else in mind. Evan Brown?

I find that hard to see as well.    I also think it takes OG out of the 1st rd pick options.  Unless they really think Will Campbell is going to be the LT of the future.   Feels like we'd be grabbing IOL in Rd 2, a center prospect?

edit:  Membou in Rd 1 for LT?

guard in the draft is still a possibility. thuney is 32

Yeah, I think you get a more developmental guard in rounds 2/3/4 but don’t have to press for a guard in the first.

I’m also very interested to see where the G market shakes out in FA. I can easily see lesser players like Aaron Banks getting money close to what Jackson and Thuney are getting this year with the salary cap increases.

THIS is a major move for a plus starter. He's 32, so it wont be forever, but right now, he's a hell of a player. He's played with Brady and Mahomes. He will be good for Caleb.

Free agency hasnt even started, and we are already addressing our weakest points with good answers. Feels different now. I think we are already feeling the impact of Ben Johnson and his staff on our roster. Poles will end up looking much better as a result of his collaboration with these real football guys.

Imagine the difference compared to Eberflus' opinion on players. Or Nagy.

I've been looking hard at the IOL market.  From what I'm seeing, the cap increase blew it up.  Teams should be able to keep the free agents they want.  It may actually drive Jenkins down to a friendly contract offer.

This guy is a stud - if we are lucky we get 2-3 years of him still at a high level. Oline is significantly better today and I expect another high end draft pick and free agent signing. About time they take this position serious.

a freakin men!

I dont think we will re-sign him. Not unless it's as a pure backup with a contract that cheap. I feel like someone will pay him to start, but as you say, not a fortune. But more than we'd pay for him to be a backup, and he will want to start if he can too.

I think Jenkins will get 10M per year.

At least that much.  His PFF grades were on par with Trey Smith which is exactly what you'll see the fans of the team that signs him saying.    The injury history of course will knock his salary down.   I still like Tev and wasn't opposed to re-signing him on a decent short term deal.  I wish him well.

Nonetheless, I'll take the upgrade!

agree with all of this, except i cant trust that he will be available. if I knew he would play, it would be a totally different story.

I think these moves allow us to know exactly what we are spending. A couple FAs would have to be bid on and the top couple will be higher than we're paying.

I think they refinance Gordon so there is probably only one more big pay spent. Probably DL.

As far as center, it's either Bates, or a lesser signing of Evan Brown who played in Detroit when Johnson was there. They project Brown as 3-21.

I think they would have cut Bates if his health wasn't up to par. I think they draft a rookie that could play center and may get him starting by the end of the year. They are not going to continue to spend 10+ mil contracts like we had 100 mil to spend. Gordon and a DL.

Sometimes you don't cut the player until he passes his physical.  It's the offseason no way to get that done.

I'd be very surprised, and disappointed, if we banked on having a rookie at Center this year even if that was for later in the season.  First off that means we're gambling because we don't know who will be available.  Or we reach way too early giving up value at another need position.  With a new offense for everyone to learn I don't want a C who has to learn how to read the D and learn what the play is.  I'd rather have a vet there even the lower level FAs like Shelton or Brown.

That doesn't mean don't draft a future center as I'd be on board with that.  Just don't expect he'll be the answer this year.  In the event of an injury I wouldn't even be surprised to see them move Jackson over and put a youngster at OG.

I'm sure they have a plan but not sure they are willing to pay Dalman 12-15 mil. That's a lot of money in the IOL.

Why not, the nfl will raise the cap 20 million again next year.  Buy your team now while we have the cap space and don't p@ssyfoot because this is about the only window we have with 3 years left before paying Caleb.  Yes 3, he will demand an early pay if he is who we thought he'd be.

both smart comments. This is how the NFL works.

Right now we have 50 mil in cap. They extend Gordon that's 10 to 15 more gone.

35 mil. 8 mil for rookies and 7-10 for operating capital for the year.

20 mil. We need a center, and a couple DL at the low side. Plus backups. I don't think 20 mil is enough to be able to sign Dalman.

If they go Center in FA, they are not paying top tier money. So I think Dalman is out, but someone like Josh Meyers (GB) or Evan Brown (ARZ) may be who they target. An upgrade over Shelton but not a huge one.
