Pats have been taping teams since 2000

Well, if this gets picked up, this should add some fun to the NFL.

Bill Belichick has been illegally taping opponents' defensive signals since he became the New England Patriots' coach in 2000, according to Sen. Arlen Specter, who said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told him that during a meeting Wednesday. "There was confirmation that there has been taping since 2000, when Coach Belichick took over," Specter said.

This is really bad for them. It really seems like they have been cheating for a long time. Im curious to see whats going to become of this. If anything it can shut up the Boston area for awhile.

The funny thing is how many times have you heard "The Pats were one step ahead of us today" in a postgame conference? Now we know why.

Conspiracy Thoery #123875381331

The league proably had much more and instead of opening the Pandora's box, they shedded it all. They hit the Pat's with a wrist slap and thought no one would press it. Turns out, like most things, the cover up, is worse than the admission...

Should be an interesting off-season!

this really really pisses me off...mostly the fact that the new "hard ass" commishioner simply gives them a slap on the wrist by taking the 31st pick away, then destroying the evidence.....

Here we go:

Lawsuit seeks compensation for Super Bowl loss

February 15, 2008

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A lawsuit filed Friday by a former St. Louis Rams player and others seeks millions of dollars in damages from the alleged taping of Rams practices by the New England Patriots before the 2002 Super Bowl.

The Patriots won the game 20-17 in the Superdome.

The $100 million suit, filed on behalf of former Rams player Willie Gary in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, names the Patriots, team owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick.

Throwing around the term hypocrite isn't exactly correct. I'm sure many have heard of these instances as I'm sure many have not. However, if you read fully in the article, which by the way is a great read (thanks for posting), many of the instances were speculatory. In Halas's case, there were no actual charges or proof of clandestine activity.

You need to stop defending Boston. They got caught.

This isn't the 40's, 50's or 60's...we also all knew that Kennedy was cheating on Jackie, but the media wasn't what it is today. The Pats are living in the microscope era now, and that's how it is for all teams.

I'd go so far to say, if right now, the Bears got caught doing similar, most of us would be crushed and fuming, not burying our heads in the sand saying, "everyone does it". However, since the Bears haven't won jack in the past decade, it wouldn't hold the same impact as the Patriots situation.

you are all hypocrites. do you all remember or at least heard of George "Papa Bear" Halas bugging the opposing locker room? What about George Allen filming practices?

How are we hypocrites? That makes absolutely zero sense.

This situation is not like the others. The NFL has footage of this all the way back to 2000 (unless the Commish destroyed it). This is not a theory or some rumor to make them look bad. This was something they actually did, knowingly. All teams have footage of the games, but taping the "supposedly" closed workouts is just flat out wrong. Just think of the advantage a team has if they basically know what the defense is going to do on every play.

Or a team scripts their first 15 plays and practices them before a game. Or you see a substitution that you saw in practice so you have an idea of the coverage/blitz package. Or you just get a better handle of the things that a team does than you get from game time film.
