Gross signs "officially"

Panthers offensive tackle Jordan Gross signed his one-year tender today, officially putting him under contract for 2008.

The Panthers placed the franchise tag on Gross, which kept him away from other teams in free agency and assured him a salary of $7.45. million this year – an average of the top 10 salaries for offensive linemen in 2007.

The signing does not preclude Gross from signing a longer-term contract with the Panthers. The sides tried to work out a new before the Panthers put the franchise tag on him prior to free agency.

Negotiations are likely to resume soon, but for now, the two sides don’t seem very close.

That's somewhat good news, they have their two OT's for the season. That gives them the option to find a player in RD1 that can contribute right away and drafting OT will not fill that void. IMO, I thought Mendenhall was there target. They just released RB D. Foster and will need another RB. If they go OT in RD1 they are drafting for the future, if they draft RB or Defense, they are looking for a player to step in and contribute right away.

They draft DeAngelo Williams in the 1st just 2 years ago. I think they will draft a RB early, but not in the 1st round. Wharton is moving inside, meaning they will still have a hole at LT. And believe it or not, lineman can make an impact as well.
