Controlled Chaos
Just for the hell of it...we're compiling a list of the top 50 greatest players to ever play sports in Chicago. I shouldn't really say "we're" as I'm only a submission, but knightni is doing all the rankings and all the work. Everyone submits a top 20. There is no criteria on what makes them the greatest....It's your own preference...be it world renowned, most popular, most athletic, most dominant...or whatever. As long as they're great players. It's not a list of your favorite guys or we would all have Maury Buford and his cowbell #1!! We're all pretty sure Jordan will be #1, but ya never know...Sweetness might edge him out. The more lists the better. This is the thread on soxtalk.com where the discussion is...But you could just PM your list to knightni right here. Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey, and Soccer only. When it's all compiled they'll post on the main TalkChicagoSports page. Send in your top
knightni
What he said. Also, if you send a list in, you might be able to do the write-up on your favorite guy if you're interested!
Ed Hochuli 3:16
Wait, the title says top 50, but you're saying send in your top 20. Which one? EDIT- Well, I hope it's top 20, because I sent mine in.
madlithuanian
Thanks for doing this! I just sent my list to you...let me know if you didn't get it. What he said. adam
CC/knightni, What format do you want the lists in (just text, Excel, etc)?
adam
Would it be possible to make a bracket of the Top 16 choices, and have us vote every couple of days until we get a winner. It would be interesting to see if the order would change based on head to head popularity.
Controlled Chaos
Format could just be text. I'm not sure about a bracket or anything....this isn't really my gig...but I will say for that we'd have to depend on people voting all the time...where as this way...it's just send in a list and you're done. We did a list for top 50 funniest movies a couple weeks ago. Here's a couple entries to show you how it went. Entries got points based on how many lists they were on and where they were ranked. I'm guessing there's just a designated point value for ranking and such...if you really wanted all the details you'd have to talk to knightni. 22. There's Something About Mary (1998) (5 of 23 lists - 57 points - highest ranking #1 ChiSox_Sonix) 1. National Lampoon's Animal House (1978) (12 of 23 lists - 177 points - highest ranking #2 Controlled Chaos)

Seems kind of odd.
knightni
Yes, you send a list of twenty. Example: Say, Payton is #2 on your list. He'd get assigned 19 points for a #2 vote. Someone else has him #6, that's 15 points. So, say we get 5 lists... 5 of 5 lists pick Payton, they have him, #2, #2, #1, #6, #4 That's 19+19+20+15+17 or 90 points I put the lists together by how many points that they've earned. Yeah, it makes sense, pretty easy to calculate. I've just seen them where it is weighted near the top. Just PM you the list?

madlithuanian
Would you mind posting the summary of guys (just names/teams) on this board as well? Regardless, thanks! But, Bo Jackson? Shouldn't thee have been a stipulation that a guy had to play for more than a minute in Chicago? The countdown has started! I went with 40 because we didn't have enough lists for 50. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=64740
