Cut our losses with Benson

Apologies...maybe it wasn't you, but there is someone on this board that brings him up in every damn thread there is.....I agree with you about the hard worker thing, but the Rudy syndrome only works in college..in the NFL you need talent to go along with work ethic....I am a Ced hater as much as the next guy (look at my sig for gods sake)...but I don't think you cut a RB to bring in a hard working WR, its a waste of a roster spot....Forte hasn't proven shit yet, we have a mediocre RB that had a decent season in the past...Yea Rhodes has had some decent seasons, and ran all over us in the SB, but that doesn't mean we should pay Benson just to cut his ass....make his ass do some work and maybe somewhere he will find a heart for this game...(and open his eyes)

hahahaha...it's me who brings up Hass. And you gave yourself away by not knowing a thing about him, but thinking....hmmm..white receiver...must be just one of those speedy guys that can't really catch or run routes. Pre judge much?? Rudy Syndrome??? yeah he just works hard...but has no talent. They gave him the Biletnikoff award, because he has a good work ethic. Do you have any idea how good he had to be in college to get that award. It's not like colleges are really pumping up or promoting white wide receivers. In the same way a black QB had to fight the prejudicices back in the day the same goes for white WR. He went above and way beyond expectations. He was always in the right place for his QB and he always made the catch. We're not just talking about him as a possesion receiver who just padded his stats with short catches. He averaged nearly 18 yards per reception during his OSU career. 19 times he had 100+ yard games. Now some of you might tell me...yeah well maybe that isn't gonna translate to the NFL..to that I say bullshit, but I understand that's only my opinion at this point. He didn't forget how to get open and catch. He's not just a hard worker....he's waiting for his opportunity and when he gets it...IF he ever gets it...he will be a stud. Here's just some of his other accomplishemnts...

(From Wiki)Became the first receiver in Oregon State and Pac-10 history to have three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, and is only the 10th player in NCAA history to do so.

Holds the Oregon State record and is 3rd in the Pac-10 for receiving yards in a career with 3,924

Only player in Oregon State & Pac-10 history with two 225-plus yards receiving games

His 293 receiving yards against Boise State in the 2004 season is an Oregon State & Pac-10 record for most receiving yards in a single game

His 14 receptions against Arizona State in 2004 is an Oregon State record for most receptions in a game

His 20 receiving touchdowns ties him for the Oregon State record for receiving touchdowns in a career

His 90 receptions in the 2005 season is an Oregon State record for most receptions in a single season

His 220 receptions in his college career is an Oregon State record for most receptions in a career

His 1,532 receiving yards in the 2005 season is an Oregon State & Pac-10 record for most receiving yards in a single season

Many have speculated that had Hass played as a freshman, he would have had a chance at breaking the NCAA records for career receptions and receiving yards. He ended his three-year Beaver career 80 receptions and 1,081 yards short of the existing records.

Now you tell me why a player like that hasn't been given a legit chance to play. Tell me why every receiver that comes in here...is projected above Hass. Hell, you don't know anything about him and you already have him out the door.

Now, as for the topic at hand...Hass has absolutely nothing to do with keepeing Benson. If Benson was cut...which would be a dumbass move...his roster spot won't be filled with another WR....

UGGHHH thanks for making me go off....it's been awhile.

Agreed, what a joke, cut Benson and pick up Rhodes. Give me a break.

Benson, unless his career ends do to injury, will be around for another year. If Forte is the player we think he is, unless Benson's attitude, work ethic, and performance all improve dramatically, he will be gone next year.

I like Hass too, but there is no way you can predict if he will be a stud or not. Hell I think if he was such a stud he would have forced them to play him by now. There have been plenty of productive college players who can't hack it in the pros.

That is true, for whatever reason, college success does not translate to NFL success. Here is a list of the past 10 Biletnikoff Award winners:

1998 Troy Edwards

1999 Troy Walters

2000 Antonio Bryant

2001 Josh Reed

2002 Charles Rogers

2003 Larry Fitzgerald

2004 Braylon Edwards

2005 Mike Hass

2006 Calvin Johnson

2007 Michael Crabtree

How many of them are actually Pro-Bowl caliber players? I like Hass, and I would hope he is being given the same opportunities to play as the other WRs, but there has to be a reason why he cannot crack into the lineup. Our WR's are not that good. Maybe he will get more of a shot this year with Moose and Berrian gone.

Yeah there has to be some reason...but it certainly isn't anything lacking on his part. He was the best wideout in camp last year. He wasn't gonna crack it with Moose and Berrian. It really didn't matter how bad they played...Lovie wasn't gonna bench em. Plus, they had to try and get Hester involved. I understand that. I don't understand Davis being ahead of him at all. I'm just hoping he gets a legit shot this year. The difference between Hass and everyone on that list...is they all got a shot right away...Hell they all were pretty much proclaimed top guys as soon as they were drafted. Hass on the other hand, has never even been given a shot and according to most, is already below the 2 guys we just drafted. That's fine if Hass has to work harder...but when he does...and he learns every WR positon and he catches every ball you throw his way....then at least give him a chance.

According to who??? If he was seriously the best wideout, he would have been playing. I will never agree with the argument that coaches sit a better player for no reason. The coaches want to win too.

I coach high school ball and you get that from time to time. A parent says "My Johnny is better than that other kid he should be playing". Yeah cause I sit all the studs and want to lose. Doesn't make alot of sense to me.
