Pixote
I know it isn't going to happen.... And I know most of you do not agree... But I sure wish the Bears would consider picking up Simms from TBB and have him as our #3 (he may be better than Rex or Kyle). I honestly think he is an outstanding young prospect at QB. Yes, he had a severe injury but it was a spleen, not a knee or shoulder, or ankle, etc... Last time I checked a spleen is not necessary to be a good QB, you do have to have a heart and a brain, that Simms has, along with, IMHO, talent. TB - Bucs QB Simms Wants Out Of Tampa Source: Roy Cummings, Tampa Tribune Disgruntled over the way he has been treated since suffering a spleen injury that ruined his 2006 and 2007 seasons, quarterback Chris Simms recently told the Tampa Bay Buccaneers he no longer feels he is part of their future and asked to be released or traded. The Bucs have been slow to accommodate Simms, in part because they aren't sure after months of inactivity what his trade value is or whether he still has value to them. nfoligno
Disagree. I have followed him throughout college, and the impression I had in college has seemed true in the NFL as well. If he is not pressured, he can be a solid QB. But under pressure, he is weak. Oklahoma owned him, and that reason was they knew he folded under pressure. Every year, Oklahoma would send everyone at Simms and basically say, "beat us". He could not do it. In the NFL, to me, his play has been the same. When he is pressured, he folds. IMHO, we already have a QB on the roster that fits this description.

AZ54
Never liked Simms in college and haven't seen anything in his career that would tell me otherwise. I really think there's more to his health issues than we know about or TB would have kept him around.
nfoligno
There was a year, maybe 2000, when Simms went down during a blowout when he was playing awful, w/ a questionable injury, and Applewhite came in. I think it was against Colorado. Major led a comeback that fell short, but was considered a game hero, and got the start in their bowl game, which he won. But Simms had already played and lost to Oklahoma, and got the starting nod the next year. Major led Texas over Oklahoma in 98 and 99, only to lose his job to the more highly touted Simms, who was never able to beat Oklahoma. I looked it up. Texas, under Major, beat Oklahoma 34-3 and 38-28. Texas lost to Oklahoma under Simms, 63-14 and 14-3. That 14-3 doesn't look like a blowout, but Simms had 5 turnovers and killed the team. Also in that game, Simms stood at his own 2 yard line, and under pressure, tossed a pick to Teddy Lehman, who basically stepped into the endzone to finalize the game. Simms had the name. He had the pedigree. He had the size and the arm strength. What he lacked was the head and heart. Simms racked up a great win/loss record trouncing weaker opponents, only to lose to ranked teams, and was owned by Oklahoma who would blitz him w/o mercy knowing he was not capable of making plays under pressure. In the NFL, the only change I have seen from Simms is a greater injury history. Otherwise, he is the same player he was in college. If it were not for his last name and size, he I question whether he would even be considered an NFL QB at this point, backup or starter. jason
Wasn't he benched in favor of Major Applewhite? He should have never even STARTED over Major Applewhite! If it weren't for the name, he would have been on the pine.
balta1701-A
I actually kind of like Pix's thinking on this one...given that its entirely possible the Bears will wind up wading through 3 QB's this season, but here's my one problem...the Bears are already trying to fix more than a couple positions by "Throwing depth at it". Specifically, think about WR, RB...they're looking at what, 6, 7 WR's? They're looking at carrying 4 RB's even though one will be shunted more to special teams? On top of that, the Bears had as many draft picks as any other team out there, right? Even with the ol' IR trick there's only so many people that a team can hang on to. If the NFL didn't have the low number of roster spots that it has, then this would be a logical move for both sides. Might give Simms a legit chance to come in and back someone up, and the Bears cna't have too much QB depth honestly.
Da Bears 88
I'd love to have Chris Simms.
Connorbear
Not interested. I simply do not see him as an improvement on either Rex or Kyle and would rather use the 3rd QB slot for a young QB. Peace
madlithuanian
Pix, I'm going to reluctantly pass. I'd prefer more of a veteran at this point. Had we not signed Rex, I'd be 100% for it...
