ostrogoth
There is no doubt Favre talked to coach Mike McCarthy about coming back two weeks ago, despite Favre's claims to the contrary. It's also clear through Favre's family and this report that Thompson doesn't want Favre back. The Gazette says Favre would have "un-retired" as early as May if Thompson had asked him back, but that didn't happen. Thompson reportedly isn't returning Favre's agents calls. This is all a little childish on both sides, but Favre can force Thompson's hand by being definitive about his plans. It's debatable whether he'll be willing to do so. How do you tell a guy that has been the face of your team to "beat it, we are moving on". farve needs to know when to hang them up and the time is now. He can only fling the ball up for grab so many years until he can t produce that majic anymore. the time is now for Farve to walk away before he makes an ass out of himself. madlithuanian
It wouldn't be a comeback... He has to be away for a season for it to be so. If he comes back, he'll be a good tackling dummy. GakMan23
FAVRE CAN EASILY PUT PACKERS IN A BIND Posted by Mike Florio on July 3, 2008, 6:02 p.m. Adam Schefter of NFL Network lays out the procedure that quarterback Brett Favre would follow if/when he decides to play football again. Favre currently is on the reserve/retired list. To be activated from it, Favre only has to send written notice to the Packers and to the league of his desire to play. The Packers would then have 24 hours to reinstate Favre, or to release him. The other possibility would be to activate Favre and then attempt to trade him, if the Packers don’t want him back on the team. But they would be required to use a roster spot on him until he is traded. As to whether the Packers want Favre, Schefter reports that there are folks in the organization who go both ways on the issue. As to whether Favre wants to play, Schefter confirms that Favre is training as if he’s returning. If he chooses to do so, the Packers have limited options — and there’s a good chance that they like none of them.

DABEARSDABOMB
I heard Peter King on today and he said that from what he's heard he thinks the most likely scenario involves Favre coming back and playing on another team. However, he added that the Packers will not in any way shape or form just release him or enable him to join the Packers (or Bears). The Bucs and Ravens were the two most likely destinations. BearSox
He's so stupid. He should have just stayed with the Packers. Because he retired, the Packers in the offseason were preparing to add more QB Depth and such, that's why they drafted Brohm in the 2nd round. If Farve stayed, the Packers could have focused on drafting more weapons to help them. If Farve stayed, I think they'd easily be the favorites to win the North and NFC. However, the Packers are now a mess with a bunch of controversy, and have a QB who will be eaten alive if he doesn't have a pro-bowl season. So far this has been great for Bear fans!!! balta1701-A
So far this has been great for Bear fans!!! Yeah, this certainly has all the hallmarks of one of those messes that can tear apart a locker room, and hell, damage a franchise for a fairly long time. DaBearSox
I think the most logical thing for the packers is to just bring Farve back and release Aaron Rodgers....they covered the QB of the future when they drafted Brohm...now you have to go with the best QB possible which is Farve. Keep with Farve for another year or 2 when he finally retires.... this also may help the bears....they could pick up rodgers and let him compete

Trade possibly, but he certainly would not be just cut loose.
adam
This whole thing is a marketing ploy from EA for Madden. In the end, Favre will say the only way you will see him play is in Madden 09.
