Owner Jerry Jones claims that the move isn’t the result of Glenn’s refusal to accept a lower salary if he can’t play. “That turned out not to be an issue,” Jones said. ”At the end of the day it had more to do with where we are right now . . . all that might have impacted how we give our young players a chance in how we evaluate that position.” Glenn was due to earn a base salary of $1.74 million. Jones wanted Glenn to take only $500,000 if the knee were to implode. Immediate speculation likely will center on Glenn signing with the Dolphins, given that Miami V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells drafted Glenn to the Patriots in 1996, and brought Glenn to the Cowboys in 2003. We have room for a maximum of 6 roster spots: Marty Booker, Brandon Lloyd, Devin Hester, Rashied Davis, Earl Bennett, & Mark Bradly. Then we still have Rideau, Hass & Monk. He'd just be another mediocre WR thrown into our mediocre WR mess. I think we should try and get him. AZ54 Posted July 26, 2008 Report Share Posted July 26, 2008 We don't need him. As bad as our WR corps is I'd much rather give reps to the younger guys so they can get better. Glenn at best is a one year stopgap plus I agree that he really won't add any ability that we don't already have, just some experience. They decided that if they kept him, he was just going to take reps away from one of their younger WR's. The Bears ought to look at him the same way. Give him training camp to keep rehabbing. Then teams ought to take a look at him in the last week or so of camp or first couple weeks of the season, after you've seen what you're getting from the WR's you have, after he's had more time to rehab, and after the first round of injuries hits. I realize he's had a serious injury and no one knows what to expect, but this is a guy who in 05 and 06 had over 1000 receiving yards and has had a total of 4 1000 yard receiving seasons in his career. This guy is loads better than every WR on the roster when healthy. The Cowboys have the ability to release him since they have Terrel Owens and Patrick Crayton (two guys that are pretty good already) and thus can allow a 3rd young WR to develop. The Bears have a shitload of unproven guys and I for one would be thrilled to have a guy like Glenn to go along with Booker to at least give you two solid veterans who Orton/Grossman can rely on (ie, guys with good hands and route running ability). Glenn missed didn't catch a single pass in the 2007 season due to injuries. His salary was only 1.7 million, yet the cowboys didn't want to pay him. Who's their 3rd young WR they to develop that you're talking about? Booker's not exactly unproven. He's had some good seasons. Lloyd had a Bernard Berrian type season before dissappearing to Washington (like most of their FA's do). Hester's considered the most explosive offensive talent in the game. Meanwhile Rashied Davis & Earl Bennett have looked great in camp. Most importantly, you're forgetting that we had a proven 34 year old WR who ran good routes and was capable of putting up 1000 yards in a season. He sucked so we dumped his ass and he's in Carolina. Lloyd & Booker are both castoffs looking for another chance. So far they've looked good. We don't need to add a 3rd player in that same mold. Glenn was let go by the Cowboys over the weekend and there was immediate speculation that he'd be reunited with Bill Parcells in Miami.
