madlithuanian
Thanks for the info...but to clarify... If he's on our 53 man roster, then there's no chance of another team grabbing him regardless of what he wants to do, correct? My thinking is why risk it, and just put him on the 53 roster while Wiliams rests up for a better next season. Or even drop one of our dozen DT's... Granted, there's a good chance Hanie could start for the Bears, but maybe there's a good chance he could sit behind Tony Romo in Dallas and get a Super Bowl ring backing him up and learning an according to hoyle NFL offensive system vs our joke called a Bears offense. Let's see these next 3 games play out...and if we see what we saw in the 1st...he should be on our 53 man roster. Your understanding is incorrect. When a player is on the practice squad, they are not protected by the team that they are on in any way as long as another team is offering a contract and a chance to be on their 53 man roster. Another team could approach Hanie and ask him if he'd like to join their 53 man roster and make him a contract offer, but he could choose to decline. He could also tell the Bears in advance that if he gets an offer, he'd stay if they match too. The bottom line is that Hanie's opinion on the sitch would be the guiding factor. bowlingtwig
I agree with Connor. I typically agree with ZZ but not this time. I am sorry but I believe with all the problems that we have at QB we will carry 3 QB's going into the season. Weather the 3rd is Hanie or Simms or Beck or anyone else that wants to be thrown into the conversation. If the 3rd is not Hanie then I believe we will attempt to place him on the PS and pray that no one picks him up.
flea
Hanie or someone else, I don't care who but traditionaly we use 3 QB's every year.07, 04, ????? Oh & NFO leave AP alone, don't ya know he'd be a HOF RB on any other team???
ParkerBear7
Nobody drafted Tony Romo either. The only thing idiotic I see is guys like you that refuse to see the skills this guy has. I don't give a freak whether every pass he thru was against a bunch of freakin girls. He made the throws downfield, accurately and on time and he also showed something else we haven't seen from the other two knotheads we have, he can freakin scramble. So YOU get over YOURSELF and open your freakin eyes. Nobody's saying start the guy but if you're so impressed with the dynamic duo, knock yourself out. Count me as one of the guys who wants Hanie on the roster. This is the absolute Truth...Big D....The Bears get lucky and finally get a very nice QB Prospect for free and he has proved capable of walking of the street and lighting up a 3rd string NFL Def. I was not worried about the talent he was going against I was evaluating his leadership, poise/moxie, decison making, accuracy, arm strength and mobility and I very much like what I saw from him. If his co-rookies did not get the jitters (Monk & Bennett) Caleb could very well lead the team for a come from behind win in the final 2 minutes! So we need to see more of this kid throughout preseason before we rush top the conclusion that he should go to the PS where other teams are able to steal him. CrackerDog
He started a game for us at LB in 2006. Wow. You are right. If a guy started one game in however man years, he must not be a specialist. Obviously, how could I have thought different. Sorry, but your killing your own argument. You know Ayenbedajo was a special teams specialist. He was no more a LB than Hester has been a WR. In fact, I would argue Hester has been more of a WR than Ayen a LB. You talk about one prior year start, but how many snaps do you think Ayen actually saw on defense. Now how many snaps do you think Hester lined up for on offense? Wanna bet Hester saw more? We need backup LB's. He started a game for us. He therefore was more than just the specialist you claimed. He started a few games for Miami as well, I believe. That was the point. Hester may be growing into being more. I love the kid regardless of his role as a WR. End of discussion on this. I'd never cut a pure WR at this point if that WR looked to have potential to be a starter. We don't have that luxury either. Hester is just a hope at this point. And I'm with everyone else in hoping he's great. But again, see the next point... Is Hester really any more of a "hope" than say Bennett? Or Bradley? Yes. Because of his paycheck. You can try to spin this 20 ways from Sunday, but the truth is, while Hester w/o question gained his reputation as a special teams player, he can not be called a specialist at this point. He played more offense last year than numerous others on the depth chart, and he is being worked into the offense even more this year. I can't say whether he will ever make it as a WR, but the same can be said about 1/2 the roster. IMHO, a specialist, regardless what "other" position he is listed at, is one who simply is not even part of the plans on offense or defense. A player who is the 6th LB, and part of no defensive package, but plays special teams, is far more of a specialist, IMHO. And you've been proven wrong again. Oh man, now you've done it. You just touched the third rail of being an internet Bears fan! You just cut down AP's status. He's the sacred cow of internet Bears fans everywhere. Except for Hanie, of course. I know. I know. I have been blasted before for such comments. I like AP, but I simply am not sure where I see his contribution this year, except on teams. What role does AP serve as a RB? What does he bring to the table one of the others do not? I like AP, and would hate to see him go, but when talking about having a special teams specialist, that is AP. He is a luxury which the staff may have to question whether or not we can afford w/ Williams roster spot being saved. He's cheap. He ain't going anywhere. Keep your cotton-pickin' hands off AP or you'll get your butt virtually kicked around these parts. You've been warned.

I doubt anything is done w/ AP, but I simply see him as the luxury player/ roster spot, and question whether we can afford such a luxury on a team already lacking in depth before sacrificing a spot for Williams. nfoligno
Williams may hit IR if the other thread is accurate. Saw that. Still, I expect the staff to be stubborn and wait well into the season before making any decisions, if ever. And further still, I regardless see AP as a luxury. 4 RBs?
