Corners not doing their job

IMHO we have two overpaid corners doing nothing in the passing game. Sure they can get interceptions on tips and ball throw right at them but this bail and run scheme they play is simple not good. I have watched other corner like the Giants Webster and the Packers Woodson play right at the line on the WR and bump and turn and run with them. This causes two things, ! for the timing to be off on quick routes and 2 for the QB to hold the ball longer allowing the pass rush to get there to the QB. I played saftey/corner in high school and college and never saw this thing the Bears are teaching and we played the cover two also, with two deep safties. This makes me wonder if our corners can cover man to man at all....as with the Titians game both Vasher and Tillman got beat again and again. They only time they made plays was when the QB held the ball longer allowing them to make up ground and be in position for the int and they each both dropped one last game.

One. While I agree they are not getting it done, I do still think we have to look at the coaches. Vasher has indicated they line up off the LOS because that is what they are told to do. Now maybe they are told to do that because the staff has no confidence in their ability to play at the LOS. But the point is still that it may not be the corners fault for lining up 8 yards of the LOS if that is what they are told to do by their coaches.

Two. I do totally agree though on the need to move up. In addition to the two benefits you mention, I would add a couple.

- IMHO, they are more suceptible to double moves. WRs can more easily "show" a go route, get the CB to turn his hips, then immediately stop for a come back route. That is an automatic completion of 5-8 yards, w/ potential for YAC.

- Playing off the LOS, I think we are also more suceptible to the quick outs. QBs can take the snap and fire horizontal. The WR then catches the ball w/ space in front of him, allowing him a greater opportunity to make a move and beat the CB for YAC. If the CB is pressing the WR at the LOS, there is virtually no chance for such a quick out.

I really think Vasher is struggling, and should be replaced by Graham. Graham may not be a shut down CB, but I think he is an upgrade to Vasher right now. Vasher was once a stud nickel, and may be able to regain confidence in that role. Tillman, according to the Score, is still nursing a shoulder injury, and may be a little tentative due to that. Still, I think we would be better off w/ Tillman and Graham starting.

While you could argue they are over paid, I think they've been more then adequate for years. The only thing that has changed with them personally this year that could effect their play is injuries and off the field issues. On the field, the main difference is there isn't a pass rush.

I think it has alot to do with Bablich and Lovie's scheme more then anything. I just think this D as they are running it has been figured out. It's been exposed how to beat them, they rarely change what they are going to do from game to game, and other teams are copycatting.

I think when basically every player on D, the same one from a dominant D a couple years ago, it all has to go on the coaches.

You'll look on here and see threads on how there is no pass rush. You'll see threads on the CBs. People are saying it's time for Mike Brown to retire and Urlacher to retire. People are glad Hillenmeyer is off the field and that only leaves like Briggs and Payne with out complaints. I can't believe all these players all of a sudden got bad. I think it's more easy to believe Lovie/Bablich have been exposed and unable or unwilling to adjust. Losing their players faith in the system and not being able to motivate them.

I will agree they are not playing up to par, but I will not say they are overpaid. I am going to blame the "scheme" until it shows me it can work. (since it is not going to change obviously)...

I might side with you to put graham in there over Vasher...he is just not looking himself right now
