azbearsfan
This really gives in sight to Urlacher's views. Kind of throwing teammates under the bus Maybe he needs to give up the C on his jersey

Pixote
He is just frustrated like all the other players, coaches, & fans. He did not point the finger at one individual player. He did not identify any player by name. He is just saying he is tired of everyone pointing a finger at him as if it is his fault the entire defense played bad this year. Should he have said what he did, maybe not, but I do not see it as bad as many are reading it. In another thread it proclaims Urlacher said any one criticizing him does not know football. What he said is those people may not know our defense (meaning the way the schemes are called by the coaches). I agree. I have never seen Urlacher positioned so close to the line of scrimage on just about every single down. He usually, like all MLBs, plays 5 - 7 yrards off the line of scrimage, unless he is going to blitz. This is where he should be so that he can use his beggest asset, speed, and pursue the play. When he is forced to play 1-2 yrds off the line of scrimage in the gap between tackles it negates his ablity to use the speed he has. In the past he has always racked up a bunch of tackles, usually leading the team or maybe 2nd on the list. This year they change his positioning on plays and his performance suffered because of it. If it was Babich that did this, FIRE HIM. If it was the LBC that did this, FIRE HIM.
AZ54
If it was the head coach who allowed it to happen all season long can we fire him too? Urlacher is being flat out stupid with his comments. His play is clearly not at the level where it used to be no matter what scheme or position he is used in. I haven't talked to anyone nor read anything putting the blame for our defenses woes solely at his feet. It would be nice for him, as a captain, to at least take blame for things he could have done better. Other players such as Mike Brown, Alex Brown have done this, Lance Briggs, Tommie Harris have not. Briggs continues to believe he's playing on the best defense in the league thus proving that lots of money can make you stupid.

No. He just said that he basically played just fine, so the reason the defense was terrible was not his fault. Basically saying the other guys didn't play hard or well. Not really words you want to hear from a captain of your defense. Especially the captain of a defense who came out flat down the stretch during a playoff run. And to say that anyone who criticizes him does not know football. That's laughable right there.
