DABEARSDABOMB
It probably won't happen, but I'd love to find a way to get a DE/WR/QB in the 1st two rounds. Obviously we wouldn't be able to get all 3 in two rounds but guys that intrigue me a lot at the WR position are Hakeem Nicks and Jeremy Maclin (I don't care if he's small the guys a freaking player and would be one hell of a weapon...put him and Hester on a field with a nice posession receiver and you got a pretty sick WR corps especially when you combine it with the weapons we have at the TE position). The QB I want and want badly is Matt Sanchez. This guy screams strong pro. He has good mobility and a strong arm and really all the tools. He isn't as uberly talented as Stafford or as accurate as Bradford (which is why I love Bradford above all) but Sanchez has a really nice mix of tools and has grown a lot with a surprisingly uninspiring collection of offensive talent at USC (it's good, but not ridiculous talent). I pretty much want Sanchez at all costs.
BearSox
If Sanchez is there at 18, I don't think there's a way we pass on him, unless some team offers a ridiculous amount to trade down. Personally, as far as the QB position goes, I'd plan on not drafting a QB unless one of the big 3 falls. I'd sign a vet like Kerry Collins to a two year deal (I think Tennessee makes the commitment to VY next year) to compete for the starting job with Orton and be a safety net if he doesn't win the job. If Sanchez or Bradford does fall to us, I'd take the QB, and trade Orton, making Collins the starter while the QB develops, as well as Hanie. I think this plan would be perfect for us, because we'd pretty much have all bases covered, IMO. However, if we go into the draft without bringing in a backup QB, I think there is a tremendously high chance that we draft a QB in the first, most likely Josh Freeman. I do not think any team would give us crap for Orton. We'd be better off keeping him on a very affordable last year of his contract. His knowledge of the system we run would make him a valuable backup in your scenerio of bringing in an "aged" veteran as a starter.

If we got someone like Sanchez and Collins, we'd be wise to trade Orton while he still had a little value. We'd probably get a 4th at best, but more then likely a 5th or maybe a conditional 6th, but it'd be worth it if that is what happened. Maybe a conditional 6th, which will likely wind up as a player who get cuts in preseason and maybe winds up on the PS. Not too many 6th & 7th rounders make it, with a few exceptions. Personally I do not want to gamble on QB in the draft. It is so damn difficult to hit on a good one. I think we have 4 picks in the 1st 3 rds (if we wind up with a 3rd compensation pick). I would like OL, WR, CB, & Safety. Then if a good FB is available in the 4th, excellent. In FA I want OL, DE, & maybe a flyer on a QB. Go with OL, DE, and safety in the first 3 rounds (best available in no particular order). Peace
