defiantgiant
You had me at "more OL" Frankly, I am neither for, nor against your idea. I simply have no clue how well Bowman would transition. A concern I have is, Bowman was considered to have medical issues and potentially a bit brittle for the NFL. Would a move to S not expose him in this regard more than playing CB? Bowman's a pure cover corner, from what I've seen. He's over 200 pounds, sure, but he's not built like a safety. I'd be very, very hesitant exposing a guy like him to more contact. His injury history isn't just the torn ACL. In 2005, he had an undisclosed leg injury that knocked him out for a while. Then he tore the ACL in his left knee during fall practice in 2006 and missed the whole season. In 2007 spring practice he ruptured the patellar tendon in his right knee. That's the same injury that Cadillac Williams has been trying to get over since 2007. Then, after all that, he ruptured his bicep. He's been injured every season he's played, and three of the four have been season-ending. That's not a guy I'd want at safety.
akshaz
We said the same thing about Mike Brown after his first 2 injuries... Not fair. Mike Brown played every game for a few years in the NFL at a very high level before he caught the injury bug. Clearly, not the same thing. In regards to our safety position, I'm not sure what we're going to do. But, I can assure you that it is a mistake to pencil Steltz in as the starter at Free. I don't think he has the speed or takes the right angles to be an effective FS. Moving Bowman over there couldn't hurt. He can cover. He has the speed. Plus, this gets him on the field right away. Not sure why that cannot be a viable option. At least, let him compete. Has anyone heard what we're going to do with McGowan? He can be labled as "brittle". But he's definitely better than Payne or Steltz at FS.
ParkerBear7
Ken Lucas may become avaiable and would be a great tandem with Tillman! http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/26/lucas-nixe...t-could-be-cut/ Official Blog of the National Football League Home « Bills release TE RoyalCowboys could cut safety Williams »Adam Schefter Panthers’ Lucas nixes deal to Detroit, could be cut Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Carolina Panthers, Free Agency 2009, Ken Lucas The NFL’s trading block opens Friday, though talks already have been in high gear. The Panthers tried trading cornerback Ken Lucas to the Detroit Lions. Problem is, once the two sides were engaged in discussions, Lucas let it be known that he did not and would not play in Detroit. Thus, trade talks were abandoned even though some in the league thought the trade might go through. The talks are an indication of what Carolina has in mind for Lucas, who is scheduled to make $5.6 million in base salary this season. If Carolina cuts Lucas this week, it will free up $2.375 million against its salary cap. For a team desperately searching for space, Lucas provides some of it.
