Um... yay?

I'm happy! I was very high on him coming out of college. I hope he proves me right :). Really i hope they actually use him and not just have him sit on the bench. Having a good RB combo would be huge. It made Kerry Collins look good

I hope he's ready for 8-10 carries per game.

Does this mean we're taking AP out of the #3 RB spot and moving him specifically to special teams?

Could very well be. I hope this means they will take a longer look at Wolfe as a 3rd down back. I think that KJ has voiced that he is now 100% and has something to prove. I'm satisfied with this move and hope he does prove that he's a solid RB.

Good. I means we don't need to draft RB...

I'd be more comfortable if we still at least grabbed another RB late in the draft. There are plenty of day 2 backs who can contribute in a committee - there's no good reason not to open the #2 RB spot up for competition. Jones has had a LOT of injuries, and they were all really worrisome ones for a running back: Lisfranc fracture requiring surgery in '06, ACL tear requiring surgery in '07, whatever that hamstring problem was last season.

I understand he was basically in recovery all last season, but he hasn't shown anything that makes me think he should be handed a large role without competing. He was a special player in college/his rookie year, and I like keeping him on a relatively cheap deal based on that potential, but dude hasn't played a 16-game season in the NFL. He's a huge injury risk, in my mind, and the Bears need to be sure that they've got a back who can be counted on to spell Forte. Otherwise, we're going to run him into the ground.

I love this signing. Last yr when he was being inactivated he went to Lovie and asked if he could play on special teams. I remember he ended up with at least 5 to 10 tackles. This shows he wants to be on the field. If he is healthy, he can help take the load off of Forte.

Peace :dabears

I like the signing and I think this completes our RB trio for the year. Why we would keep AP around anymore is beyond me. Take the roster spot and use it on a real hard hitting FB. If you get a FB with the right mentality he'll be a wedge buster too. We have Garrett Wolfe who was more effective on special teams than AP last year and then Kevin Jones did some special teams coverage and did well too. AP is what he is and IMO he's not quite as good as he used to be. I'm not saying there's been a big dropoff in his performance but it was never that high to begin with.

This is fine by me as well. If he's fully healthy, he can help take a bit of load off Forte. After the overwhelmingly slow 40 times by the RBs this year, the draft didn't seem to be the place to get a good compliment. Hopefully between Jones and maybe an enhanced role for Wolfe (I'm still holding out hope) we can have a nice, balanced RB attack.

I understand, but it's a bit too much of a luxery based on the many holes we need to fill.

With Wolfe given a chance, and AP still on payroll...I think we can get through the season.

I think this will turn out to be a good signing, better than we expect. He is out to prove he can still play and will be a 100%. I think this means we wont be drafting a rb in the draft, we have other pressing needs.

I'm not sure solidifying our run game is a luxury. Look at it this way: barring some huge FA move or a very lucky draft, we're going to have one big corps of projects at wide receiver next season. We've got some good tight ends to throw to, but that's not an offense by itself. Unless they go out and get Holt or trade for some other wideout, the Bears are going to be leaning very, very heavily on the run game next season.

Even though we've got a couple of good pieces in place already, we can't afford to sell that area short. Forte accounted for a higher percentage of his team's offensive yards than any other back last season; unless we're going to make him do it all himself again in 2009, we need a legitimate threat at our #2 RB spot. Peterson is steady but unspectacular, and both Jones and Wolfe are big question marks. If we go into the season as is, we're gambling that Wolfe, Jones, or one of the receivers has a huge breakout year. I'd rather not roll the dice on that.

Jones is being paid 2 million this next yr to be our #2. They will not draft a RB IMHO.

I believe Jones could have a very good year as our # 2 guy. He is now fully recovered from his injury and now we have to hope that our coaching staff actually uses him. We can't just let him sit on the bench like we basically did last year. Give Forte his 15-20 carries and then give Jones between 8-10 with the rest going to Wolfe/AP and have AP basically our #1 SP player like we all know he can be. This is also hoping that our Oline can provide some protection for Orton. If they can give some protection it will open up the running game and allow us to run the ball 30+ times and that should breed success. We can't have Forte do everything again this year otherwise he won't be here for 10+ years like we want.

EXACTLY. All the talk of drafting a RB was making me ill.

Now if Turner would just get his head out of his ass and actually use Kevin Jones to spell Forte more than one play a game. The downside of this is that the potential of Wolfe will yet again, be a completely unknown quantity because these coaches lack the knowledge and ingenuity to put him into situations where he would tremendously help the team.

Were you really expecting different even if we hadn't signed Jones? I don't see the staff being smart enough to actually utilize Wolfe in a manner that will make him successful, with or without Jones.

Really, anything after R4 is fine by me... Before then and it's a luxery...like Wolfe was...

Sadly, I was not expecting different. I was hoping, but not expecting. Of course, I view this as yet another reason why this staff, specifically when it comes to the offensive side of the football, is borderline incompetent. Honestly, who runs Wolfe straight up the gut, on the goal-line, against the friggin' Vikings?!?! Foreign countries have been bombed for lesser travesties.

We just fired or demoted our entire defensive staff, don't be shy about leaving the coaching criticism to just the offensive side of the ball

Um... yay?

I think having a Jones in the backfield is awesome. Especially after Thomas was let go prematurely and Kevin wants to play for Chicago. He is a fantastic keep and influence.

Now, I think the Bears should consider Marvin Harrison (workaholic) and Roy Williams (the Safety one).

Then in the draft, the Bears should consider Mark Sanchez.

Roy Williams as SLB? He is worse than D. Manning in coverage so why would you like to bring him as a safety in a scheme that relies on the safeties to cover someone. The problem last year on the safety position was the lack of coverage!
