lemonej
The Score is reporting the Bears released Metcalf today. Not surprising. He had plenty of opportunities to gain a starting position and never really came close. His suspension last season led me to believe that his days were numbered. Does anybody know what he was being paid, I dont think he was redone of the cheap.
dawhizz
Wouldn't you at least wait until you had your camp next week to see how he looks compared to Omiyale (who hasn't actually played guard yet)? No doubt any money saved will immediately be used to bolster our impressive free agent haul this offseason...

There's got to be more to the story than just simply releasing him.I agree with you.Why not wait until mini camp? This only makes sense if the money is being earmarked to bring back St.Clair who is more versatile. nfoligno
Few things: One, Angelo has always tried to do right by his veterans and release them sooner rather than later if that was the intention. Two, They could be any number of reasons for the timing. Maybe, like Holt, Metcalf has a bonus written into his deal that would have paid him if he were on the roster after a particular date. Maybe Metcalf simply read the tea leaves, spoke w/ Angelo, and asked to be cut loose sooner rather than later. Maybe the bears asked Metcalf to take a paycut after the Omiyale addition, and cut him after no agreement. Point is, I do not think many here considered him part of the plans, and most expected this move sooner or later. Three, only other point is, this should have nothing to do w/ St. Clair. We have $25+m in cap space, and thus any veterans we release should have nothing to do w/ the salary cap. There's got to be more to the story than just simply releasing him.I agree with you.Why not wait until mini camp? This only makes sense if the money is being earmarked to bring back St.Clair who is more versatile. Since 2005, he's been pretty much worthless. It seems like once a year we'd hand him the starting job and he'd get hurt, and whoever we replaced him with played better. Last season it was St. Clair. ASHKUM BEAR
I was honestly surprised we kept him around after we signed Buenning. Since 2005, he's been pretty much worthless. It seems like once a year we'd hand him the starting job and he'd get hurt, and whoever we replaced him with played better. Last season it was St. Clair. Good ridiance, not only was he worthless as a football player, he was an arse in public. I would've loved to kick him in his bad knee if I knew I could of made it out alive. My bad moment with him was during training camp, a lot of players were at an establishment and we were talking to St. Clair and Des Clark. Those two are great guys, so I would love to see St. Clair brought back b/c of that, but not really for his LT talent. Metcalf must have thought that the establishment was private or something and told me to move on and he was bluntly rude about it. None of the other players mentioned they didn't want us around and Mike Brown bought us a beer. It was one of my greatest nights out as a Bear fan and got to talk to about everyone except a few bigs that didn't show (Urlacher, Briggs, Ogunleye, Olsen). The greatest thing was when other people I don't know came in and asked me if I was with the Bears, if I wasn't so honest, I could've really had some fun.
