Cards shopping Boldin

I would still rather draft an OT, but IF we are looking to draft a WR, I would just as soon send the pick to Az for Boldin.

Many here like Nicks, who some "compare to" Boldin. Well, why not just go out and get the real thing. We sure as hell have the cap space to sign him to a new deal, and further, we could even front load it and make it cap friendly for the duration of the deal.

Just heard on the Score that the cards are willing to trade Boldin for a mid to late 1st rd pick.

Good idea?

I think Loadhart is gone, and then Beatty may be the best available. If that happens, I think we may be better off simply taking Duke Robinson to play OG, and allow new acquired Omiyale to stay at RT, where he has said he feels more comfortable anyway.

I too think that if we are going WR in the first then Go and get him. We do really need a legit #1 and he would be! Who would be the best case 2nd round OT? Loadhardt?? Anyone else projected 2nd??? OLine has to be taken care of in the first 2 rounds

Didnt think about that route... I would be happy with that! Boldin, Hester and Bennett with Olson thrown in there would not be to shabby.

Seems like a consensus. I completely agree. All drafted players are a crapshoot. Boldin is not. A first for an all star is a solid deal. And just as AZ said, I'd have to think that the Bears would be OL heavy very soon thereafter.

If this is actually a possibility, there is absolutely no reason why it shouldn't happen. I will be highly ticked off if some other team gets Boldin for a first rounder, and then the Bears have the audacity to draft a WR in the first.

YES YES YES!!! I'd throw in a 4th as well if all it took was a mid-round 1st. Also, another thing I would do is trade up back into the first and get Eben Britton.

It would leave us with basically no more draft picks, but I feel getting two players like Boldin and Britton would be well worth it. You'd be talking about 2, hopefully, long term answers at no. 1 WR and RT. Plus, Boldin would make a great combo with Hester. And lord knows we have the cap room to give Boldin the money he wants.

Obviously I agree on Boldin and Id like to get Britton, but our defense would be hosed.

Considering the cash that has been pumped into the defense, and the performance last season, maybe the attention needs to go to the offensive side of the ball for a change. You say "hosed", I say "shifted balance".

Think of it this way:

There is no Bears' fan under 30 who remembers when the Bears were relavent offensively for more than a year or so. Ponder that one for a moment.

I said if we got Boldin Id like for us to get Runyan, who is better at this point than Britton. Than we have the rest of our picks to go after OL, S, DE etc. If all we got from the draft was Britton we would have no depth anywhere.

My guess is that's b.s. Detroit scored a 1st, 3rd, and a 5th for Roy Williams. The situation was comparable that Roy Williams was demanding a big contract. Williams acted like an ass-hat throughout the season, but Boldin pouted and cried like a little girl after the NFC championship game because he didn't get thrown to more often. Arizona just made it to the Super Bowl, why would they dump Boldin for so little?

More importantly, does anyone else agree the Bears won't make a big financial move with the financial impasse coming?

I'm going to join the "out of my mind" group, and apparently fly solo on this one. There is no way I give up the #18 pick in the draft for Anquan Boldin. I will give up our 2nd Rd pick for him and if I can get it, preferably our 3rd. I said it weeks ago. Boldin is often hurt I can't recall the last season he didn't miss games due to injury. Yes, he's a great WR and I love his toughness; he'd be a great Bear. He's just not worth the #18 pick no matter how desperate we are.

If all the Cards are asking for is a 1st Rd pick then that's their starting point. In my mind that equates to pick #32 and I'd counter with a 3rd Rd pick. My goal would be to get them to take our 3rd Rd pick and swap picks in the 2nd Rd. Then I'm taking Britton in Rd 1 and in Rd 2 will be a FS/OG and Rd 3 will be the opposite FS/OG. Best available after that.

If our past drafts were not so lop sided defensively than we would not have been in the position in the first place.

I say adding a WR like Boldin and an OT and or OG would do wonders for this offense and we can sign a stop gap S and address our Def in next years draft. Let the kids play as Kenny Williams has done while reinfusing some youth back into the Whitesox which is excactly what the Bears need to do starting with the OL.

As AZ54 made the point about Boldin's ability to stay healthy and that would be my primary hold up on pulling the trigger on this trade. Sometimes it makes sense to rebuild and with this years depth at WR and OL that would make sense for the Bears especially since we got the extra 3rd rounder. But it would be cool to see the offense with a few more weapons instead of being the red head step child of the Bears! Now is there a Defensive player we have that could be packaged for Boldin? I know this is not madden but would you offer Harris or Vasher along with a 4th?

Agreed. It is time to work on building the offense.

As for the defense, count me among those who believe the defense will be upgraded by coaching changes. We had mainly the same personnel, and dominated. Then we changed coaching and sucked. I am not sure if Lovie and Marinelli are "all that", but at this point, I think most anything is an upgrade from Babich, and truly believe our defense will be better.

Most assumed they would go for a similar deal, but that doesn't mean it will happnen. Dallas was in mid season and seeking a playoff spot, and deals at that time tend to be higher than in the offseason. Also, just because one team does something stupid doesn't mean it truly sets the market.

Az has been dealing w/ this for a year now, and may simply have reach a point where they will take what they can get, and if no one is offering more....

As for whether they will spend the money, IMHO, when there is a player Angelo really wants, he spends the money. The question is, is Boldin a player Angelo would really want.

The problem is if there are other people seeking him, it drives the price up. Keep in mind the salary cap and that leaves some teams out, so your offer may work.

Here is what I would offer;

Our first and third this year, and our second next year, for their first this year (31) and Boldin.

That gives them essentially mid first round value (when the picks are added up based on the trade value chart), and gives them a package that looks more like the one Detroit got for Williams. It allows them to move up high enough in the first to get their choice of RB, which i'm guessing is what they'd take.

It would allow us to still take a OT in the first, and still ahve a second to use for a FS. We'd still have a late third compensatory pick, and could use that to take a guard project or a pass-rush DE specialist.

After the draft, we'd have a new RT, a new FS, a number 1 WR (Boldin), which is exactly what we need. I would almost rather pick at 31 than 18, as the OTs we want would probably still be there (at least 1 of them).

I wouldnt be too surprised if they went defense in the first round instead of RB.
