Reactions???

What have the reactions from the player been like?

Adewale gave a quick phone interview. He was semi-indifferent. He basically intimated that it won't matter if the Defense doesn't step up.

Urlacher gave a statement that is almost negative. He seems to like the idea of the Cutler trade, but it appears that he thinks the Bears gave up too much to get him. He also spoke kindly of Orton.

I heard Urlacher's statement too, and could not believe how he sounded. Stuff like, he is a pretty good QB "I guess".

I really hope this is not a situation where the D feels like Cutler is taking the job away from a veteran they liked, because we all know how the D can deal w/ such a situation.

I get the idea of praising Orton, a former teamate, but as long as this D has dealt w/ bad QBs forcing them on the field massive minutes, you would think they would be a tad higher on this move.

I have loved Urlacher ever since he palyed his first down but are you kidding me. NFO your point is perfect and right on "How many 3 and outs have Orton and Grossman put the D"

Like NFO said, does the team Mafia goe against Cutler like they did with others on this team. When Chicago drafted Benson, the "Mafia" chose to break him down. Benson was supposed to be next greatest RB and his college play showed he had the talent, but when your left out and alone, you either clam up and shut down, or you become a fighter and fight everyone against you to prove them wrong. Benson IMO clammed up.

If I see any of this directed toward Cutler, I would hope JA would blow up the D and any offensive players "Kreutz?" that are the Bosses leading this team CODE.

I hope these reactions are just numb reactions, not knowing what to say.

Also, maybe since Cutler is very cocky & trash talking, the Bears D players may have that in there minds from previous games. Glazer said that Shaun Merriman mentioned he has never seen a QB talk so much trash. You'd thought he was a defensive lineman.

I like a cocky QB, i would hope everyone loved Jimmy Mac. I just remembered one line from Cutler " I have a stronger arm then Brett Farve".....Now go out and thorch the Pack!!!

I didn't like Url's comments either. I think some of that "mafia" of vets in the locker room will be put on notice. Wale will be gone next year. MBrown is already gone. ABrown and Url may only have a few years left. Kruetz only has a couple years left at the most either.

They need to understand that it is now Jay Cutler's team. You dont give up that much stuff to not have him be the leader.

I think JA is sick or the current leadership, or lack of it, so he picked his, what he hopes, in the golden ticket.

I think it's hard to judge by all the comments. We all know Urlacher's strong suit isn't answering interview questions. Wale's reaction was both diplomatic and accurate I think. I like that being a defensive guy he brought it back to the defense and owned up to the poor play of the defense and that they need to get back to form. Which is true, if you have a good offense you can negate that with bad defensive play just like a good defense can be negated by a poor offense. I usually don't read much into Url's comments they often don't sound like much thought went into them.

Another way of looking at this is that there is the shock of it all. April 1st Kyle was our starter, and there was little to no indication of what would happen today. This news caught a LOT of people off guard. Supposedly the deal was going to go down between Denver and Washington and was all but finalized. Then out of the Blue the trade is announced and to the surprise of many it wasn't Wash, it was the Bears. Kyle had earned the respect of his teammates and I'm sure they were still stunned. What you won't hear is "good riddance Kyle" or over the top praise of Cutler. I would imagine what we'll get is mostly diplomatic type answers aside from URL who's answers are like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get. They have a great deal of respect for Kyle so I imagine that has something to do with some of the tame responses.

I like Kyle and I think he showed guts last year playing through that ankle injury and and dealing with the long wait to finally get the chance to be the man. I know he had hopes of being the long term QB in Chicago. I wish him the best in Denver except when we play them.

Didn't he actually say, "I have a stronger arm than John Elway"?

Not reading too much into any of it. I don't expect any of Orton's former teammates to throw him under the bus and like the fact that so many, including Urlacher, made it clear they liked him and he was a good QB. That will help Orton in the locker room in Denver. Now Hester's YEAH YEAH when talking with Deion Sanders (not on air) is probably a better indication of what the WRs think. Now Hester knows he can go deep and not have to stop to catch the ball.

Lol, well he might not have to stop and catch the ball, but he'll have to keep moving and catch the ball. Both of which were a problem for him and all of the WR's last year. They all couldn't catch for whatever reason.

But at least Hesters biggest worry will be to catch the ball when he gets by his defender. He won't have to worry about turning completely around and run up to get the ball and then catch it. I believe this move will benefit Bennett and Olsen the most.

I think Olsen made a very valid point when the coin flip question was asked. When your rotating QB's in practice it becomes hard to establish good rhythm with one guy. I think Having Cutler be that guy without question means he will take all the practice reps with the 1's and as a result the backs and receivers who will be at the top of the depth chart will be practicing with Jay exclusively. Stability at that position will be huge.

Another good point made by Sean Cassidy on the Bearscast podcast from 4/3. The reason QB is such an important position is "A good QB, he can make your other 10 players, your OK other players better. Just like your talking about. That's what Jay Cutler's gonna do, but, if you only have an OK QB like Kyle Orton, the other 10 guys has to be good to make him better. It's a lot easier to be good at one position than it is at 10 positions. An the Bears finally figured that out today."

IMO, Its similar to a point guard in Basketball the offense flows through him so as the QB if you have a guy who's just adequate the other guys have to make up the slack and their margin of error is very if not non-existant. Where as if you have average at best receivers a high quality QB can get more out of those players and make them better. We saw it with the Bulls and Jordan (not comparing Cutler to Jordon). MJ made everyone around him better, now he did have Scottie, Grant, Pax, and Cartwright for the first 3 championships, and Rodman, Kerr, Scottie, Luc Longley. He had a solid starting cast outside of Jordan and Pippin the "supporting cast" wasnt nearly as talented on paper but their play was elevated by Jordan's play. I think that Cutler can have that kind of effect. I think he will make our backs an receivers better.

It's better make that change then trying to get big name WR's in there and hope that Kyle can play well enough to utilize them. For the longest time it's been difficult to pointless to evaluate and develop WR when we consistently have had a void of talent at the QB position to get them the ball.

I agree with your point except Jordan wasn't a point guard. If you have a good point guard you usually have a good team. If you have a good QB you usually have a good offense. Maybe not great but at least good.

I'm surprised nobody is giving props to Urlacher for his comments in today's news where I felt he really came out in support of Cutler and Pace. In particular I like the statement that he has nothing to explain to his new teammates and that Urlacher likes him being a bit cocky.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...T-url04.article

''Making this deal, plus we got Orlando Pace, our offense is looking really good,'' Urlacher said Friday on WMVP-AM (1000). ''We have some big names on offense, which we haven't had since I've been here. We have a franchise quarterback, which we obviously haven't had. We're going in the right direction.

''He's still young [25]. I'm sure he has a lot to learn, but from what I've seen he has all the skills you want in a quarterback. He can throw the ball on the run, he can throw it from the pocket. He's got a cannon. And he can play well in cold weather, having played in Denver, so that will be important playing in Chicago.''

Urlacher said Cutler's attitude is not a concern despite the quarterback asking to be traded because of hurt feelings.

''He's got nothing to explain to me,'' Urlacher said. ''They tried to trade him, and he got a little peed off about it.

''As a player, if a team talks about trading you, you would be a little mad, and he got really mad. I don't blame him one bit. ... I'm on his side, and most of the time players are on each other's side when these matters go down. He's got nothing to explain to us.''

In fact, Urlacher likes Cutler's attitude.

''He'll do a great job,'' Urlacher said. ''He's got a swagger about him which, personally, I love a quarterback who has a swagger. He's cocky, but not too cocky. I like that. I think you have to have that as your quarterback, somebody who's confident and will get the job done.''
