Angelo mentioned his next order of business was bringing in some competition at WR. Who do you want?

UFAs

Matt Jones

Torry Holt

Brandon Lloyd

Mike Furrey

Drew Bennett

Marvin Harrison

Shaun McDonald

DJ Hackett

Koren Robinson

Justin McCariens

Ronald Curry

Ashley Lelie

Darrell Jackson

Amani Toomer

RFAs

Malcolm Floyd (2nd round comp)

Lance Moore (2nd round comp)

Hank Baskett (2nd round comp)

Demitrius Williams (4th round comp)

I'd certainly like Holt, but I would also seriously consider Demitrius Williams at 4th round pick. He hasn't quite put it all together yet, but I like what I've seen from him in limited work in Baltimore. I'd also think about taking a flier on Bennett or Curry.

Given what has happened, I wouldn't be opposed sticking with Hester, Bennet, and a guy like Holt. Hester and Bennett are both young and we can see how they develop this year along with a good veteran that I could pencil in for about 800 receiving yards. Combine it with a young TE like Olsen and a steady vet like Clark and I'd be quite content on the Bears not taking a WR and instead using our early picks on the safety spot and our future RT (whom we could develop slowly).

I'd obviously have no qualms about going with a WR, but given the QB we have I could live with the current set of weapons plus Holt (since I expect all to be much better with Cutler here).

Precisely my thoughts all along. All the clamoring for a WR is basically a way of saying, "Guess we'll throw that Bennett pick in the crapper."

I have no problem going into the season with a vet, Hester, and Bennett as the top of the WR depth chart, especially considering the connection that Cutler and Bennett are bound to have.

In Rd 2 we have to see what falls to us of course but I'm thinking FS is at the top of the needs list now, followed by WR, OG. It's pretty clear there's two top FS coming out this year and both are slated to go in Rd 2. It's a big dropoff after that. Now if JA likes some of the other guys (i.e. Butler) and if the better Rd 2 WR are gone (i.e. Robiskie) then I can see us trading down in Rd 2 to grab another pick in Rd 4 or 5 (then package those three picks to move back up into the 3rd or as early in Rd 4 as possible. With three picks late Rd 2 - Rd 3 we grab WR, FS, OG in whatever order the board has them rated.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Bears bringing in Darrell Jackson. He had a pretty nice career in Seattle but didn't do much in his year in San Fran or Denver for whatever reason. He's only 30, and should be some familiarity with Cutler from practices last year.

The only thing that would have me not jump in the Torry Holt bidding war with Jacksonville and Tennessee is the fact he's a 3 year band aid and not a solution. The guy had 780 yards his rookie year, then had 8 seasons of 1180 yards or more until last year when he was on a horrible St. Luis team. He still pulled off over 780 yards tho.

I could possibly with Bennett or Jones at a league minimum, but nothing more. Really none of those guys excite me. Holt would, but damn he's old now. Darrell Jackson would have 2 years ago, but I'm not sure what happened to him since, he's still only 30 tho.

I like Jackson too. Wasn't he in Denver last year? I know he didn't get on the field a lot, but he did at least get some reps with him.

But the Bears have two young WR's with potential and a young TE whose already shown a good amount of production and should get better (ie, Hester/Bennett/Olsen). Therefor, a 3 year stop gap would be perfect regarding Holt. Plus at this point in his career he would be much more likely to be willing to slide into a secondary type of role where he would still be incredibly effective and valuable and as he continues to regress we hope our young players continue to step up (and if Bennett or Hester don't develop as expected, you still have a vet you can lie on heavily and than address WR next year via FA or the draft). And the nice thing is, having a guy like Cutler, you can actually go in and address the WR position a lot easier since tons of WR's would love to play with a guy like Jay.

Sign Holt! And draft defense with the 47th and 99th. We need a safety and defensive lineman who could actually get to the QB.

Apparantely Earl Bennett and Cutler are very close. This maybe Bennett's year to shine because Cutler makes all of his WRs better.

I'd like Hester 1, Holt 2, and Bennett 3.

You know Jay and Bennett are close when Cutler actually called Bennett to inform him he's going to be a Bear.

He also went and threw for him at Earl's pro day. They're pretty tight. That being said, that guy definitely shouldn't be counted on to be anything more then the #3.

I agree with Scott, sign Holt JA! We've got some gaps on defense to fill with those earlier picks!

I have no doubt in my mind that the WR position will be addressed by JA in FA & the draft. I am anxiously awaiting the next signing. He would not bring in a QB like Cutler, investing this much, without giving him some targets to work with.

It sounds like Holt might be a Titan in the next few days.

I read an acticle somewhere either in the Trib or suntimes and they were saying that they wouldn't be surprised if the Bears got into things with Holt because Holt and Pace both have the same agent. However I also read somewhere else that Holt's agent has said that Holt wasn't interested in coming to Chicago. Not sure if that was said before or after the signings though.

Turner constantly talks about "stretching the field." The only guy we have who can do that is Hester. Of this list, the only guys who can legitimately do that as far as I'm aware are Matt Jones & DJ Hackett. Jones has issures while Hackett has major injury problems. I'm guessing both of those guys will end up with a one year deal for around the minimum. The unbelievable advantage the Bears have it:

1. For once, we actually have a QB who makes the WR's look better . . . as opposed to "Mushin Moohamish."

2. Our WR's suck so bad, Hackett & Jones are likely better then anybody we have.

With Cutler & the upgraded offensive line, Chicago looks like a good place for WR's.

Either way, I don't see us spending much on Holt until we figure out what we have. And I sure as hell don't see us giving up a draft pick for a RFA.

I'm hoping Kenny Britt falls to our 2nd round pick for some reason. I doubt it happens, but that would be ideal. I should say him or Nicks actually.

Robiskie and Iglesias are nice, but neither are anything special and I'd rather focus on something else with 49 then bring in a WR without much upside.

I'd love to sign Holt, but that doesn't look like it's happening.

I'd have no problem with Robiskie. We could use a solid steady WR like him. He has enough size and speed, he knows how to run routes well and he catches with his hands. That's the kind of consistency we could use and his background makes it more likely he'll be able to contribute sooner rather than later. Something we need.
