Pixote
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Akms...o&type=lgns Takes some mystery out of the first pick. On NFL Network they said that a deal had been agreed on by Curry and that if Stafford did not agree to a deal by draft time the Lions would probably go Curry. It puts even more pressure on Stafford and gives the Lions a backup plan.

It puts even more pressure on Stafford and gives the Lions a backup plan. And saves them some money. Curry agreed to take less then what Long got last year (I think that was something like 60 million). Stafford's offer is at like 80 million with 40 million in guarantees. It's ridiculous that a rookie who never played a down in the NFL will be getting paid 10x more what a lot of proven vets are getting paid. Hopefully if they get the new CBA through, they can have a rookie cap in there limiting the amount of money top 10 picks can get.

DABEARSDABOMB
Good luck behind no OL, Matthew. They have another first and the top 2nd pick in the draft where they could address Oline twice. The Lions are in a pretty good spot in terms of rebuilding. It would just be a bit easier if there was a more sure thing at the top, but as we've all learned there is no sure thing when it comes to first round QB's. I do think the Lions are making the right choice. I prefer the west coast offense and thats why I like Sanchez, but Stafford is a good choice to be a potential face of the franchise. No kidding, this is Peyton Manning type money, this can not be allowed to happen at all.
madlithuanian
The Lions may be the last. I imagine they will cap rookie salaries in the next players' deal. And in those terms, I'm not sorry the Lions are saddled! Although, I'd much prefer it to be the Packers or Vikings... No kidding, this is Peyton Manning type money, this can not be allowed to happen at all.

They have not earned their check but they get rewarded on past success in college, hope of future success, in a crap shoot. It's a perpetuation problem, you have guys who get huge contracts for being a top pick then if they do pan out they want an even more insane deals. Being in the top of the first round and getting over paid jacks up the price for existing players who want to be paid usually at or near the top amount for their respective position not that I disapprove of that if they deserve to be paid. I think a cap is necessary for the Rookies. If I"m a GM I'm not entirely sure I want to pick in the top 10 it's easy as a fan to whine about top ten busts and in hindsight who we coulda shoulda woulda taken. You may hit but odds are higher to miss or at least get less than you hoped for. The price to pay for a top 10 pick so easily can blow up in your face by either getting a malcontent, spoiled, unmotivated, or sub-par talent. Unless you hit you look stupid. Jerry's not the only one who has his problems with his 1st rounders, particularly high 1st rounders. When you miss it hurts the team on the field and the cap paying a boatload of cash for dead weight. Reducing the ability to bring in a Vet who's paid his dues and could help your team and deserves to get paid.
