Yeah no kidding. I wonder how true this really is considering all the other times he has said no and then come back.

jason
That's actually good news for Minnesota, and bad news for the Bears. Favre is a turnover machine, and in the last few years he's been just as much a hindrance to success as he has been a help.
AZ54
Good news for the Vikings? I don't think so. After spending an entire offseason courting Favre the coaching staff and key players on that roster have all thrown their leftover QBs under the bus. Had the coaching staff handled things differently by taking a low key approach then it might be different. They tried to stay low key early on but the media forced them to show their hand. Throughout the summer they continually contacted Favre, even as late as two weeks ago when the OC paid him a visit. Then after that they had Adrian Peterson, Jared Allen, and a couple other big name players call Favre and tell him how much they wanted him on the Vikings. So now Tarvaris Jackson knows he's done in Minn. Sage Rosenfels already knows he's a backup but he'll toe the company line hoping to eek out a starting role for a bit of time but he has a weak arm. In the huddle after a play in which Berrian drops a pass that was a little bit off-target what is being said between Jackson and Berrian? More importantly what are each of those guys thinking? What are the Olinemen thinking? Of course winning cures a lot of ills and Minn still has a good team. They have a soft schedule to start off, so they could easily win the first 2 or even 3 games. They should be 4-1 when Baltimore rolls into town. It's possible everyone is talking about how they never needed Favre at that point. But when crunch time shows up from week 6 on down and they start losing more than winning (Bal/Pitt/@GB) things will likely turn quickly into an endless series of questions about the QB play. It will be hard to exorcise the ghost of Favre. Then you have some conspiracy theorists (as per above) who think Favre just wants to miss the beginning of training camp then he'll show up. That stuff is out there and the media will keep asking about it during the Vikings training camp.

I don't know, something like, "It doesn't matter; you won't be here next year." Kind of like the same thing that could be said about Favre if he were picked up. Sure, he's got the respect because of his legacy, but the thing we were more likely to see was a bunch of players semi-irritated with his boneheaded throws into triple coverage. After a few weeks, whispers would have escaped the locker room, and people would have begun to talk about the fact that Favre is washed up. Maybe people would even mention the word "sabotage." A few more weeks go by, a few more horrible INTs, and the fans begin to turn - along with several players - on Favre, knowing that with their defense and running game, they don't need Favre throwing picks in bunches; they need someone who is more likely to hand off and manage the game. That's when people start to honestly consider whether or not the team would be better with Tavaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels. I honestly was predicting this to happen...and I believe the team would have been worse overall had Favre come back for this year than if they were to allow either of their current QBs to start. Just look at the massive choke job he did towards the end of the year last year, just about single-handedly costing the Jets a chance at the playoffs. You are right about one thing: This Favre talk isn't going anywhere for a while, which is horrible considering the fact that it's been going on for several years now, and ESPN has been fellating him nonstop since the draft. Keep in mind that's based on an injured Favre. It probably makes more sense to talk hypothetically about Favre coming back as healthy, since an injured Favre wouldn't (and didn't) come back anyway. Year before when he was healthy he nearly took his team to the Super Bowl. A healthy Favre would definitely not have been better for us than Minny's backups. As it is, we get the best of both worlds. No healthy Favre for Minny, no unfified team direction either.

No healthy Favre for Minny, no unfified team direction either. An expert that I respect was asked was asked about Minny's chances and he said that Minnesota still has a good team and could still be a playoff contending team but because they do not have a QB that can throw he sees them being just like last year and losing in the 1st round of the playoffs. Minnesota would have been better with Favre because Favre can still win games by himself and can stretch the defense because the defense has to respect his ability to throw deep and accurately. As of right now though they do not have a QB that you have to respect and teams will continue to stack 8 men in the box to try and shut down Adrian Peterson. Peterson is going to have win games however he will have an increased work load because of the QB situation and therefore will probably turn the ball over just as many times as he did last year. Lets also not forget that Minny still has no pass D.
