"people may scoff but if we win out we will be 9-7" to which I kept saying .....and? or .......so what?, Has he been told or it's been implied that if we win out and finish above 500 it will make things alright and he gets to keep his job?

1. that is a pipe dream, we barely beat the hapless Rams by 8 points (who more beat themselves than we beat them) so now we think that we can beat GB, Balt, Det, and Minny. Dream on Smith, we will get 1 win maybe two if we can somehow beat Balt (Even Minny's scrubs could probably beat us.).

2. to what point and purpose would be accomplishing 9-7 in covering the fact that there are major holes to fill on this team including coaching that we have played like crap for most of the season. Is this an attempt to silver cloud or sugar coat that we suck? I think so.

3. We finished 9-7 last year and looked bad doing it too. Didn't make me all warm and fuzzy inside while I watched as other teams were in the playoffs while ours was home licking its wounds. 3 years since our blown super bowl and we haven't sniffed the playoffs. 3 YEARS!!!! and we're supposed to feel good about "well, we finished 9-7"

Another comment that I had to LOL at was one the comentators I think Trent Green but on either a penalty or it might have been when Bell forgot to be on the field forcing the time out on the punt team but anyway what he said was priceless. "And you can see the dissatisfaction on Lovies face" or something to that effect and I just had to laugh.... what expression. Whether he's happy, sad, mad, confused, annoyed he has but one expression, the 1000 Yard Stare which is why I think he wears sunglasses so you don't see the obvious deer in the headlights look. If Trent Green can truly differentiate than he's a better man than I.

This seems almost stupid to say...but yet again all the right teams have lost/won at this point in the year to make 9-7 possible for playoffs. Only 3 teams are ahead of us and there are two slots. Us winning out means beating Green Bay, which should mean finishing ahead of them if they lose this on this week's MNF. If Philly can win their division, that leaves only the Giants and Dallas as stumbling blocks. The Giants still have Minny and Philly to play. And 3 out of 4 teams Dallas has left are 8-3, 8-4, & undefeated. Of course our schedule is not cupcake either, but Lovie was talking winning out.

There are 4 teams this year with a losing record that ended last year with a winning record:

TEN 13-3, 5-7

CAR 12-4, 5-7

TB 9-7, 1-11

CHI 9-7, 5-7

There are only 3 teams with a winning record that had a losing record last year.

CIN 4-11-1, 9-3

JAX 5-11, 7-5

GB 6-10, 7-4

There are also 8 teams that currently have a losing record and finished last year with one (STL, SEA, SF, DET, KC, OAK, CLE, and BUF).

So if we end this year with a losing record, the odds are against us to rebound next year.

In summary, the winners stayed winners and the losers stayed losers...with the exception of 4 teams that got worse and 3 that got better. Interesting stats. Usually there's more losers that get better than we've seen this year. It seems every other year one of those teams makes it to the super bowl.

Ok guys this is unbelievable, to me anyway. While going back through my own posts to look up stuff for another thread I came across this post from last year at this time of the season. I forgot to save the hyperlink but look how incredibly close the wording (and the situations are) a full year apart compared to what I posted above.

"Don't look now, but even if we don't win the division, there's only 3 teams ahead of us and 2 wildcard slots. Tampa, Atlanta, & Dallas. And Dallas has a killer schedule (Philly, Giants, & Baltimore) so I would count them out, especially after last Sunday's game."

I'm a consistent optimist, if not imaginative, lol. BTW, Dallas lost last week, just like they did last year when I referred to "especially after last Sunday's game".

Even here in Dallas, the talk is pretty negative. Dallas does not do well in December, and has some really tough games ahead (SD, @ NO, @ Wash and Phily)

I think the belief here is they will go 1-3 from this point, and even that one win at Wash will be very tough. Phily and NY both could push ahead of Dallas, leaving them out of both the division lead and wildcard spot.
