Tim Spencer Interviewing at MSU

Running backs coach Tim Spencer has spoken to Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio about the vacant running backs coach position on the Spartans' staff, according to FootballCoachScoop.com.

Tribune is reporting that he will be interviewing with Michigan State for the same position on there staff. He joined the Bears when Lovie was hired so he's been here a while. He previously spent 10 years at OSU as a coach (and also played there).

I figure he has a good relationship with the Bears but I wonder if he feels the heat on the offensive side and would rather leave now when he knows he has an opening as opposed to take a chance for a year without one.

I think if I were him I'd think about it, especially since the lower level assistants don't get paid enough to go without work.

Would it be a bad thing if Spencer left? Have we seen much development out of our backs with him here?

Forte was solid in his rookie season (actually very good) but Benson never developed (not necessarily his fault)? Forte certainly didn't show improvement in year 2. Wolfe never emerged like Angelo thought he would (albeit one could say that was because we used him improperly).

Basically Thomas Jones is the only guy that came in and was better or improved. I wonder if this really is a bad thing that he is looking elsewhere.

This isn't a bad thing in the least.

Our running game's not been really good since TJ left. Forte just had a boatload of carries his rookie year with a fair average at best. (No wonder he was hurt this past season...overuse.)

I'm glad I hear all the beat writers talking about the Bears signing an above average back-up because I think that will do wonders for our rushing attack (including making Forte a better back). My guess is the Bears front office has tipped there hand in this regard so I pretty much expect that to be one of our signings.

I also expect the club to look hard at OG's, DE's, CB, FS, and Wr.

Agreed.

I'd also like them to look at a legit FB.

I also think it will be nice to have Williams with a year of experience. The guy looks like a natural athlete for a big guy and he might just turn into that tackle we've always wanted.

Omilaye will be one of the x-factors. I think we'll see him at RT with the Bears signing a big-time guard (or so I hope). Omilaye is just more comfortable as a tackle and has the tools to be a pretty good one (Tice needs to help him though).

And having a true blocking FB would be pretty sweet!!!

I think we will enter the draft/ FA looking for either a RT or OG. If we add a RT, we will have Beekman and Omiyale compete at OG, which many comments from the staff about how Omiyale looked better at the end of the year and claim he needed time to develop. If we add an OG, we will shift Omiyale to RT and have him compete with Shaffer, talking about that being Omiyale's natural position.

A blocking FB is a great thought, but for whatever reason, our staff seems to love McKie.

I'll be ticled pink if Williams turns out to be a solid starter. His play towards season's end (again moved due to injury, not because this staff could see Mount Everest in front of them...) gives me hope for the future with him. I hope is injuries are well behind him.

I wish they'd move Omilyale to his natural RT position. This staff keep insisting on shuffling all the wrong players to wrong positions. Over there, I think he'd at least have a chance to be a legit starting T. Otherwise he's a very pricey backup G playing the starter role.

I drool at the possibility of getting a slobberknocker FB!
