Wesson44
Since O-Gun has a broken leg and will take some time to heal and for him to get back to form,Brown is older and the steady DE. Anderson is not the answer do you take a shot at Peppers? We have no first or second round pick to spend big money on so why not go after Peppers? I think with Peppers and Harris it could be another situation like it was in Tampa with Sapp and Rice coached by one R Marinelli. If not Peppers then Kampman from GB

If not Peppers then Kampman from GB Although I like Pepper, I like Kampman even better. He does not fit into their new 3-4 as well as they had hoped. He would fit right in with our scheme. With him in a 4-3 we would have what we want in a DE to pressure the QB.

defiantgiant
And he'll probably cost a lot less than Peppers just on reputation. You think so? I was actually thinking that Kampman's price could be higher than Peppers'. The Panthers aren't expected to try to retain Peppers, whereas Ted Thompson says the Packers are going to make Kampman an offer. Now, this is probably going to be Kampman's last contract, so he could be looking for the biggest payday, but given how loyal most Green Bay players are to the organization and how much their front office rewards their own players, I think it could take some serious cash to pry him away from there. Meanwhile, it looks like the Panthers are going to let Peppers walk, none of the final 8 teams can sign him, and there could be a lot of red flags about effort/consistency that are non-issues for Kampman. His sack numbers are gaudy (at least when he's in a contract year) but I don't think that will necessarily mean the market for him will be higher. This is just my two cents, but I think it might end up being harder to get Kampman, which is a shame, because I'd definitely take him over Peppers. chitownman
I understand what everyone is saying in regards to Kampman having a bit more upside that Peppers at this point however, as defiantgiant has stated I would imagine that Kampman may not be able to leave the hated ones up North due to the fact that they will probably provide him an offer that he just can not and will not pass up. Peppers while older I think would do very well for us and add some dimension that we seem to be lacking. I know there are others that are concerned that Peppers will disappear however, I think that a change will be good for him and he will do better than people are going to give him credit for and it would be fun to watch him playing here. In the beginning of the season it was widely reported that several GBP D players were not thrilled with their new roles in the 3-4 and Kampman was the most vocal. As the season progressed he became less "public" but I have to believe if he could go to a 4-3 that would utilize his strengths better he would be a happy camper. There is a bit more risk there, but a lot less financial risk in signing him and given all of the Bears potential needs, Kapman would allow the team to adequately address a need while still giving them the resources to do something else. DABEARSDABOMB
Whoa...Peppers is going to get quite possibly the largest contract ever given out to a DE. Kapman will not. Peppers is on another level as Kapman as well. I like Kapman more, but only because of the financial reasons. As a pure football player, Peppers is better, I just think there are some risks he gets lazy and doesn't produce.

I agree. I would like Kampman just not sure if GB would be willing to let him go. There is no way that he will command what Peppers will. I heard a rumor somewhere that he could be asking for a figure around $30 mill.

Oh, I know what Peppers is asking for (he basically wants Haynesworth's contract, last I heard) I just don't think he's going to get it. I'm not sure there's anyone in the league dumb enough to offer that kind of money to a 30-year-old player who takes entire games off. Seriously, there was a quote from Peppers to one of his teammates at one point, to the effect of "imagine what I could do if I actually tried." That has to be a red flag for any team. As a pure football player, Peppers is better, I just think there are some risks he gets lazy and doesn't produce. We have been hearing all the media coverage this week about whether or not Freeney will be playing in the SB..Why? In a QB driven league you have to sack and pressure the QB or your D will not be good enough to go anywhere! I do not care about just getting to the playoffs, I think this team's core is good enough top get back to the SB which should be the goal every year. It is no secret that the Bears biggest need along with fixing the OL is getting a pass rush which would do wonders for the secondary! Go after both Kampman and Peppers with a fullcourt press and hope that you can sign one of them. Since we pretty much know the Smith 2 scheme will stay than it is a no brainer for a head coach and GM who have 1 year to save their jobs to over pursue what we all know can fix what ails our D mostly. I think we already saw the sence of urgency and desperation when AJ gave up a 2nd rounder for G. Adams a much cheaper alternative to going after the likes of Peppers / Kampman. Unfortunatley with the passing of GA; AJ will need to be more agressive in FA if he and Smith are going to be around in 2011. We did not think JA was seriously going to go after Cutler last year so I certainly would not discount that JA will not atleast provide his due dilligence and contact their agents. The Bears Brass are desperate and that may turn out to be a damn good thing for the fans. It appears that AJ / Lovie are willing to put it all on the line with the recent experienced coaching hires and I expect this to carry into FA. If it does not work and Lovie and JA are out at the end of this next season than I wonder if Ozzie Guillen & Kenny Williams are available in the offseason to manage the Bears! With Ozzie, there would never be a dull moment on the sideline or boring presss conference! I think his rants could rank up there with the Ditkas, Denny Greens and Jim Moras! And you know Williams would not be afraid to trade or cut anyone and would pursue top FA. I could not resist the what if scenario started in another post.
