Guest TerraTor
http://chicago.comcastsportsnet.com/02/19/...&feedID=661 well it aint cheap to see a 7-9 team with no draft picks
nfoligno
It looks bad, but I can't say it is really that bad. As I understand it, the team was set to raise prices last year, but along w/ a group of other owners, choose to freeze prices last season due to the economy. The key is, as I understand it, something about an increase in the entertainment tax or something that has cut into the team's profits. So the team lost money (not overall, but in this specific area) by simply not raising prices. Understand, I think the seat prices are too high, but I also think the whole system is simply out of whack. http://chicago.comcastsportsnet.com/02/19/...&feedID=

Like it or not, seat prices aren't too high until they reach the point where they don't sell out the stadium.
BearFan2000
But the more they raise the prices the more difficult it is for true fans to afford to go. The stadium will still be packed but will be more of the rich executive types who can actually plunk down that kind of money to go or to treat clients. What little I make at my job makes it prohibitive to go as it is. The timing isn't the best either as the team has sucked big time the last three seasons. So they're going to raise the prices to go see an inferior product..... good plan.
flea
Really is it any different to any other NFL teamor even any other major sport?

madlithuanian
Bad timing. They just go done claiming money is no issue and putting out one of the cruddiest years in memory. Time to eat it, and let the cirrent prices ride one more year. If they bring in Cowher next year and say they are raising prices, well, that's just good business. Charging more for the same cruddy product is classless. It looks bad, but I can't say it is really that bad. madlithuanian
The market really sets the price. Stubhub,etc... But, it's just bad form on ownership's part I feel. madlithuanian
Yes. We aren't a good team. If this were New Orleans raising prices, it's understandable. The product is better. Why are we paying Ferarri prices to see Pintos? Really is it any different to any other NFL teamor even any other major sport?
nfoligno
So you would have been okay w/ the idea of a price hike last year, w/ the argument that we now have Cutler to sell? I get that it is bad timing, but I also get the reasons for it. It would have been bad timing last year too, regardless of Cutler, due to the economy. Even though the teams costs rose due to some new tax increase, they held ticket prices the same due to the economy. Sure, you have to pay the piper this year, but I still think the team deserves a bit of credit for holding last year. Bad timing. madlithuanian
As a consumer, do I want a price hike ever? Hell no. But it would make more sense when you're selling me promise and hope vs the Brooklyn Bridge. It would have made more sense. Something tells me the economy last year didn't really hurt the McCaskey's. I'm sure they won't open up their books, but I'm more than willing to assume they weren't hurting in the least. Can you give them credit last year, while still being annoyed this year? I think so. Last year was nice let's say, and this year "we're paying the piper" as you say. But I think you hold one more year. They've been getting slammed in the press. I'd have them bite the bullet on more season. Sell us on the price hike when there's something to be excited about. Heaven forbid the McCaskey's don't gouge the fans for a few more dollars. And how nice of them to let people buy season tickets on credit card now. The 21st century sure is something! Gotta put those 2% costs on someone! Mikey Boy needs his caviar and Bentley... They've shown nothing but disdain and pompousness towards the fan base this off-season. Why would I expect any different relating to ticket prices? I'll be happy to say, at least they won't get that ticket money from me this season. I'll consider going in 2 years after the strike/lockout and hopefully after the clownship of JA and Smith is removed. nfoligno
I guess the key for me was when I read something about (don't know the details) some sort of tax increase they were hit with, I believe from the Parks district or something like that. Point is, they costs went up last year, and they held off on raising ticket prices. Look, all I am saying is I understand the reasoning, though I agree timing sucks. Unfortunately, the Dallas Cowgirls are likely to get my money as the Bears will be coming to town next year. As a consumer, do I want a price hike ever? Hell no. madlithuanian
Sorry...didn't mean for you to incur my wrath/rant! I understand why, and get that it's related to last season. I just think for PR reasons, they should have held off. No worries there... 1. Good to support an insane owner sure to mis-spend 2. There are still good folks there running concessions, etc 3. They have cheerleaders. HEAR THAT, VIRGIE? CHEERLEADERS!!!! madlithuanian
Here's what the Rams did...I'm not sure costs didn't increase for them as well. But they realize they need PR... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/category/rumor-mill/ Permalink 0 Comments Back to Top Rams cut ticket prices for most seats Posted by Mike Florio on February 22, 2010 5:26 PM ET The St. Louis Rams, after winning six games in three seasons, have decided to drop the price for most of the tickets at their home stadium, the Edward Jones Dome. "We are pleased to announce that we are reducing season ticket prices for the majority of our fans as part of our ongoing pledge to deliver more value to our loyal season ticket holders," Rams exec Kevin Demoff said. "This marks the third consecutive year that we are not raising prices as we strive to reinforce our commitment to St. Louis, improve our fan experience, and reward our best customers -- our season ticket holders -- for their continued support." Roughly two third of the seats will see their prices reduced, with savings ranging from $30 to $190 per season ticket. Also, a $250 season ticket for more than 6,300 seats in the upper deck will be available. Making the move even more prudent is the team's not-so-memorable home schedule for 2010, which includes games against the 49ers, Cardinals, Seahawks, Falcons, Panthers, Redskins, Chiefs, and Chargers.
