adam
http://twitter.com/Adam_Schefter/status/9848780501 Per PFT: Pro Football Weekly has learned from league sources that the Bears terminated the contract late Monday of seven-time Pro Bowl OT Orlando Pace(notes). The 13-year veteran’s release has yet to be officially confirmed by the team. Pace had two years left on the three-year, $15 million deal he signed with the Bears before the 2009 season and was scheduled to make a base salary of $3.75 million in 2010 to go with a $250,000 workout bonus. Pace, who has been contemplating retirement since mid-December, was replaced as the starting left tackle by former first-round draft pick Chris Williams with five games remaining this past season. Despite allowing only three sacks in 11 starts, it was clear he was nowhere near the dominant force he once was. http://www.profootballweekly.com/2010/03/0...-paces-contract

madlithuanian
Smith and JA must've gotten their hands on the nude pics of themselves... They were able to release someone who deserved it... http://twitter.com/Adam_Schefter/status/9848780501 Per PFT: http://www.profootballweekly.com/2010/03/0...-paces-contract

I see the newer statistical categories were not factored in: 1) GBUs - Number of times an OL Gets Blown UP 2) RPs - Reverse Pancakes 3) PCPs - Pocket Collapsing Pressure (I think Pace may have led the league in this one) 4) GDWDTs - Getting Destroyed Without a Double Team

This does indicate, barring another move, Frank Omiyale will be moving to the outside. I also wonder if this means we're freeing up dollars for the eve of free agency. Pace was set to make 5-6 million. We keep hearing how the Bears will be somewhat major players . . .
nfoligno
Not sure how much this affects FA, though maybe a bit. I thought most of Pace's money was paid upfront, which means we have already paid him. If he was set to be on the books for $5-6m, I think that would have been his cap number, if there was a cap. I don't think he was due that much in new, 2010 money, so I don't think we are going to actually save that much money, in real dollars sense. That's awesome! clnr
Adam Schefter tweeted Pace has costed the Bears $6 million in total and that his contract was $15 millions for 3 years. Seems to me that the money was spread out evenly (or backloaded). Edit: Brad Biggs just posted the details on Pace's contract: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...retirement.html
