lemonej
Dez Clark refused to do interviews on the air (AM 1000 ESPN) because he reached out to the Bears and they have not returned his calls after the the signing of the TE today. He said as much in intervieiews after the season that he thought he could be replaced and with him already recieving a 475,000 dollar roster bonus and only due 1.5 mil he shouldn't be a cap casualty this year but it may come down to keeping him or Olsen. DABEARSDABOMB
Clark isn't expensive so I just don't see why we'd get rid of him. He's productive (when healthy) and to me the only reason you move him is if you are doing it to give him a better opportunity to get playing time. I got a feeling the real reason he didn't get a call back is because our front office is more concerned with getting Peppers/Taylor/etc taken care of. nfoligno
Clark is in trouble due to numbers, not money but roster spots. I would add his age is likely an issue. We just signed Manu, so I think it safe to say he is a lock. I doubt we keep 4 TEs, so one is likely to go. Maybe its Olsen, but I think it could also be Clark. If we are not going to trade/move Olsen, then Clark likely goes due to age. Clark isn't expensive so I just don't see why we'd get rid of him. DABEARSDABOMB
Sounds like Manu signed for 15M with 6M in guaranteed money so he's definitely not going anywhere. So basically if we keep Olsen, Clark goes. If we move Olsen, Clark stays, imo. Clark is in trouble due to numbers, not money but roster spots. I would add his age is likely an issue. DABEARSDABOMB
5 yrs, 15M, 6M in guaranteed money is what I read from Brad Biggs. Thats good money for a TE, but if he is a great blocker, it will work out. An elite blocking TE to go alongside Olsen or Clark would signiifcantly increase our chances of putting up TD's in the red zone. I also think we are going to see Mamu used in short-yardage situations as a fullback on ocassions as well. 15m for that guy? Are u serious? nfoligno
IMHO, you almost have to think of this as an OL signing. From everything I have read, that is basically what he is. I read, in Martz system, there will be plays where he matches up solo w/ a DE. Our OL sucks, and the options to upgrade were not looking great, if he can improve our blocking, he is worth the coin. 5 yrs, 15M, 6M in guaranteed money is what I read from Brad Biggs. AZ54
IMO Dez likely wants some assurance from the club that if he's not in their plans he'd like to get released as soon as possible so he can find a new home. He's still a solid productive player and will find a job if we let him go. He was a great signing as a FA considering the production/value we got out of him over the years. nfoligno
Have to say, what is done w/ Dez, and I mean in the short term, could be a "tell" as to what we want to do w/ Olsen. One thing Angelo has always been pretty consistent about is, when he plans to let a veteran go, he lets them go early. He doesn't screw around with them. He gets them on the market as soon as possible, allowing that veteran more time to pickup with a new team. If we hang on to Clark for a while, it could be a tell that we are in fact open, if not actively shopping Olsen. If we release Clark in the near future, then that is that, and most of the Olsen talk was likely just that, talk.
