Alaskan Grizzly
It's his wife that should spark interest. http://www.bittenandbound.com/wp-content/u...a-wilkinson.jpg By the way Terra, like your new sig and avatar. It was time to bid Cedric adieu.

Stupid. Either the talent or potential for all the Bears' WRs outweigh the overall meh that exemplifies Baskett. The only advantage of signing him would be getting to see his wife. The only advantage of signing him would be getting to see his wife. He's been injured pretty much the last two years so we'd be signing him for the mimimum. While he hasn't done much in his career, the one thing he's done is make some huge plays. That's worth something. Either way, it's never stupid to bring in a guy for depth and competition. Although if we signed him it could mean the end of Rashied Davis . . .
nfoligno
Yea, I have started to wonder if we won't add a WR. Not a veteran of the level of Holt, who you could simply not sign and push down to the back of the depth chart, nor an upper tier FA. But I can see us signing a WR like Baskett. Not saying I want him specifically, but... Look at Martz system. He loves to use 3, 4 and hell, even 5 WRs. We barely have that many WRs on our roster today. A player like Baskett would cost us the minimum. There would be zero guarantees given to him. He may not even make the roster, and if he does, could end up the 5th or 6th WR. Or maybe he pushes his way up to 4 or so. Again, we are going to run a very different system. I mean, just think about last year. DA couldn't get into games because we would only activate 4 WRs on game day, and 1 was a special teams specialist that wouldn't play WR. So we really only had 3 WRs on game day. That is a pretty big difference from what we will have with Martz. I have no real opinion of Baskett, but he is not going to really cost us anything, so where is the harm? At the end of the day, all his addition may be is a replacement of Davis, and sorry, but I want Davis gone. He's been injured pretty much the last two years so we'd be signing him for the mimimum. 'TD'
Atleast he's taller than 6'. He's 6'4 and this WR corp could use some height. I don't know much else bout the guy.

Not to mention, it's already been noted on here that Martz has little tolerance for guys who don't run precise routes, and Hester and Knox both struggle with that. Knox gets a pass because he was a rookie, but it's unacceptable for Hester. Our WR's have shown potential and we're waiting to see what they can do, but there's a good chance we might not like what we find. Why the hate for Davis? I like him as a back-up WR and special teams player. That's it. No more, no less. He's a good route runner and he'll learn the positions. He's just not very good. As for WR's, we'll have Hester, Knox, Bennett, DA, Iglesias, (5). I'm sure we'll draft at least one.
nfoligno
Regarding Davis, my reason for the "hate" is this, One. I frankly don't think he is anymore a good special teams player, but is rather living on past play. And when I say past, I mean a few years ago. I have talked for two years now about the dip in his special teams play. Likely not true, but two years ago, it seemed like he had more penalties on special teams than tackles. But I just feel his value on special teams really went downhill, and at the same time, other players seemed to step up their play. Two. I don't see the value at WR. There was a time he had value, but i think that too has come and gone. I would take our 5th best WR over him, but if we keep him active on game day for his special teams play, that means a better WR option is left at home. To me, Davis is very similar to AP, but even lesser. AP was once a special teams ace, but over the last couple years, his play in that regard went downhill, yet he continued to live of the reputation gained off previous seasons. Further, he would be part of the depth chart at RB, yet I just didn't want to see him out there as I would rather others get the carries. I just don't see the value in Davis anymore. I don't think he is the special teams player he once was, at as a WR, he offers little. There was a time when he was a special teams ace, and further, our WR corp was so bad he would have been considered top 3, but now, I think he has fallen far in both categories. I would much rather have a WR who can actually benefit the team as a WR. Agreed on most parts. Davis and AP are not aces and not starting caliber players. They must go to allow younger players an opportunity to emerge. Yet, another indictment on the staff. One last shot; while I am a Mannelly fan because he shows that average Joe can make it in the NFL, do we really need him so badly? How many longsnapper specialist are there in the league? If I'm a bubble OL, DL or TE, I'm learning how to longsnap. Mannelly is the best, but damn.
