Something to keep in mind going into the draft, from the Sun-Times (http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/2187374,CST-SPT-bear22.article):

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Angelo confirmed the Bears are looking at safeties, admitting they need help at the position. He said the team had a chance to make a move for a veteran safety a couple of weeks ago and opted to wait out the draft first.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We've talked about guys out there like Hamlin, Otogwe, Sharper, etc. I haven't seen any signficiant FS signed in the past few weeks, so it seems likely that whoever they had a chance to get is still out there. Might end up figuring into the equation in the next couple days, if there's a veteran safety they have in mind.

Ken Hamlin is absolutely horrid. He cant do anything, he may worse than D Manning, but thats saying alot. The thing with sharper is its just a bandaid, next year well be in the same spot. I think its Atogwe or bust. I think not getting Rolle was a mistake, but hey maybe he didnt wanna come, who knows.

Not to beat it into the ground, but this is what a terrible trade like the Gaines aDAMS deal does. A 2nd round pick? horrible. If he got 10sacks the prior season sure, but another underachieving 6sack guy, bleh. Shoulda been a 4th considering we alreay gave our 1st rounder in this draft, what the hell were they thinking. Now we are stuck with a 3rd rounder and have to trade a 2nd next year to even think of moving up (or Tommie Harris) to get an impact safety, im tired of taking these potential guys in the 5th and expecting them to produce, theres a reason guys like Ed Reed are drafted high, Id kill someone for our 11th or 12th pick whatever it woulda been. then trade down and take Nate Allen...

I think it must have been Sharper, but I could be wrong. If they thought they could make a move for Atogwe post-spending spree, I don't know why they wouldn't have done it back when he wouldn't cost a draft pick. If he was referring to Sharper, I can kind of see it - the guy's not ideal in the Tampa-2 system, and he wasn't drawing tons of interest.

I wonder if this is all a smoke screen - if I were Angelo and were planning to move up in the draft to grab Allen or somebody, I'd be talking about how I didn't want to trade future picks, thought somebody would fall to #75, had plans to bring in a veteran free safety after the draft, etc.
