Clipped from the Austin American-Statesman article by Tony Plohetski and Kevin

Robbins:

Former University of Texas football player Cedric Benson was arrested and charged

with assault with injury early today after an incident last month at Annie's West

at 706 West Sixth Street, where officials said he punched a bar employee in the

face.

The 27-year-old current running back for the Cincinnati Bengals had been involved

in an altercation at the establishment and was being escorted out when he punched

an employee, according to an arrest affidavit.

Benson has posted bail and has been released from the Travis County Jail, according

to jail records and officials.

He faces up to a year in jail if convicted of the Class A misdemeanor.

PFT updated the story. Apparently Cedric is saying that he was the victim. Gosh, we've never heard that before. The police victimized him on the boat, and in the car when he got the DUI, the Bears victimized him on draft day, and then his teammates proceeded to victimize him . . . I'm sure I'm leaving out a few.

On those 2 instances, he was proven right in court.

This one sounds like retaliation. I mean c'mon. He was in touch with the police and all he did to get a warrant issued was to not talk to them until he could have his attorney present. I'm willing to put up $20 that this "goes away" too. It's because of those fascist bullyboy law enforcement douchebags down there that I'll never go to Texas - unless nfo is willing to bail me out. ;)

Lt2,

Depends on what the crime is, which would determine the cost of the bail. If you get nailed for jaywalking, I might get you out :)

In all honesty, it isn't that bad down here. Definitely parts of Texas better to avoid all together rather than deal with the police. In those areas, it isn't that the police are really trying to make an arrest so much as hand out as many tickets as possible as that is the counties key source of income.

IMHO, I think it pretty curious that all Benson's issues seem to take place in Austin where, yes, the police don't have the best of reputations. Regardless, to be consistent with what I have said with others, players need to avoid situations that could go south. Benson being in Austin with his history alone is red flag number one, but partying on 6th street is yet another.

In reality, Benson will always be hated by Bear fans, but since leaving the Bears, proved he is a very capable RB. Further, he seems to avoid trouble and has good relationship so long as he avoid Austin and the Bears locker room.

On those 2 instances, he was proven right in court.
