bowlingtwig
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5621612 Now that Singletary has fired Jimmy Raye many people are starting to blame Singletary and saying that he just can't coach. Something tells me that if they don't turn it around and real quick Singletary will be looking for a new job at the end of the year. 49ers were supposed to finally leap frog in that division and win it for the 1st time in a long time. I am also starting to wonder if he regrets letting Martz go after the '08 season. It is pretty bad when at this point the Rams look 10 times better than his 49ers. Do the players care? Is Singletary just not a good motivator?
madlithuanian
Yeah, I've been hearing the same. I have a few freinds that are big SF fans, and they are hearing he's losing the team. This firing may help them. I think we may be seeing something in terms of a guy that's a better coordinator/assistant than HC... We'll see. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5621612 Now that Singletary has fired Jimmy Raye many people are starting to blame Singletary and saying that he just can't coach. He let Martz go because he wanted a more run oriented team and now he lets his predecessor go because the team just can't score. Its hard on a team when they continue to change coordinators like this though. 8 off cord's in 8 years.
madlithuanian
Exactly... They are a train wreck right now. It's surprised me. I thought they would be a lock for their division. I did having them winning the division but because that was supposed to be a really bad division and not because I had them rated that high. Looks like they are proving everyone wrong. I can't think of anyone who had them even missing the playoffs.
madlithuanian
I had a bit of both. I figured they were a carbon copy of the Bears of old. Great D, great RB, shoddy QB and WR's. And given their easy schedule, they'd be a lock. Goes to show you why they play the darn games! Easily them and the Giants are the 2 biggest disappointments so far... Minny really too if it weren't for the Lions medicine they took yesterday. DABEARSDABOMB
People were really high on Singletary but I remember the one thing I"ve always said is it doesn't seem like he's there as an X's and O's guy. He's a very smart guy, but he just isn't the coach that some of the other people were. He gained a lot of respect in that clubhouse and got the guys to play hard, but it seems like his knack is wearing thing on them. I've always said give me coaches and not people who just are good talkers. The coaches will find a way out, the good talkers will eventually get drowned out by the modern athlete. It is also why I don't necessarily have an issue with Lovie because I feel he has the personality to last long-term as a coach. I don't know if he has the x's and o's down all of the way, but he's better than most Bear fans think he is. Doesn't mean he's as good as we necessarily want to have. We will see though, he could look real smart by the end of this year if things go right. Part of that has to do with the fact that he's surrounded himself with excellent coaches (and we really do have a lot of top notch and well respected coaches). There is 1 good thing about Lovie and that is that he is a players coach. Players just love playing for him.
Bears4Ever_34
Singletary will be fired before it's all said and done. He's all talk and his team is a no show this season.
lemonej
Singletary's fate is tied to the number one overall bust Alex Smith. He did a lot better with Shaun Hill as his starter than he has done with Smith. Smith has not lived up to the hype of his draft status and he is an OC killer and a HC killer. If I'm not mistaken he was taken ahead of Aaron Rogers and that has turned out to be a big mistake now is that Singetary's fault? The only thing wrong with Singletary is he is coaching in the wrong decade and can't motivate these young guys with his tactics. Also according to Mike Nolan he felt that Singletary's one big fault is that he doesn't know how to"Take his feet off the gas"at times. So its not surprising that two of the staunchest disciplinarians(Coughlin and Singletary) have teams that are struggling this year.

I am not going to justify Smith as I believe he sucks but there is 1 thing that has hurt his development. He has had a different OC every single year since he has entered the league and that doesn't help. That's not all on Singletary but it really hurts in the development of a QB. AZ54
There was a lot of controversy about the 49ers hitting so much during camp. It seems clear Singletary is in trouble and firing another coordinator is always a bad sign that you don't know what you want in your coaches, or how to lead what you have. We had this with Lovie too early on, and then later, and then again, and it's hurt us. Singletary is a smart man and I do believe that eventually he'll get it right but he may need some "off time" like Belichick before he figures it all out. Even Martz admitted he got caught up in his ways and that hurt him in his past jobs. If Lovie leaves I still like Harbaugh to take his place. Watching him on the sidelines its clear he has a little of Da Coach in him but it's not non-stop over-the-top passion that players end up tuning out. I think he also has the Xs and Os down too. Connorbear
How can this not be working out? Singletary has the fire and passion? Isn't that the key?????? Peace

Daventry
How can this not be working out? Singletary has the fire and passion? Isn't that the key?????? Peace If that was the case Ditka would still be coaching. I don't think Mike S is all that smart. I get the impression he has some very basic beliefs about issues such as work ethic and respect, but may not have the sophistication to deal with the complexity of coaching an NFL team....time will tell. If fire and passion were the key, most of us on this board would be coaches.

bowlingtwig
If fire and passion is all it takes, then according to some of my friends I could be in the hall of fame lol
