John Mullin of Comcast SportsNet Chicago reports that the Bears plan to release backup running back Chester Taylor this offseason. The report points out that 2011 would be Taylor’s age-32 season, and “his arrow is definitely not pointing up.”

Taylor averaged 2.38 yards per carry during the 2010 regular season, a dreadful mark even if some of his rushing attempts were of the short-yardage variety. He exhibited very little burst between the tackles.

The Bears signed Taylor to a four-year, $12.5 million contract last March and have already paid him $7 million.

Taylor’s base salary in 2011 is scheduled to be $1.275 million.

G.M. Jerry Angelo can put that money toward an extension for 25-year-old feature back Matt Forte.

Need to cut Brandon Manumaleuna too,
