Marion Barber signs with Bears

The sense I can make is that Chester Taylor will probably be cut and the FO doesn't love Harvey Unga as much as they say.

JA is willing to give 2 years to Marion Barber but not to Olin Kreutz. F***. Trust me, I love Marion Barber. He gets hurt some, but he won't with 10-15 touches per game. But none of this means s*** if Garza is playing C.

This is quite a great move. Now cut Taylor, and have a goal line guy in place.

I read 2 years, $5 mil.

Once I realized that this probably spells the end for Taylor it made complete sense. I like all of the moves so far. Every move has been with low $$ and nobody hasn't received more than 2 years. Low risk but possible for huge return from most of these guys. I'm loving the way the offense is shaping up and could be very dangerous but we must continue by getting some olinemen

If they cut Taylor, this means they will have lost 2 of the 3 guys they signed last offseason which means they would've paid Manumaleuna and Taylor $13m and admitted their mistake.

I think cutting Unga is a bigger possibility.

Cutting Unga would be a mistake. Barber and Taylor are at least similar. Unga can be a fullback or a tailback.

Strange moves. I'm confused and flabbergasted at the Bear's moves. It's like we want to get as many cheap players as possible and figure out the mess later.

Are we sure Kenny Williams is not working for the Bears as well?

Kenny is all over players who were once great but can now be had for cheap as they are on the decline and also has the knack of trading for former high draft picks that have failed to live up to expectations.

What's really wrong with that? As some have pointed out earlier, if half of the current FA's pan out then the Bears are that much better for it. That doesn't even count the draftees.

I, for one, am a HUGE fan of Barber's. Admittedly, he has slowed down as of recent but I think he has enough left to be a spectacular short-yardage (and goal line) back. That is in tune with another poster who insists that Martz needs to remember that Chicago affords an enviornment where running is paramount. Especially in those situations. And contrary to another poster, Barber and Taylor are not alike. Taylor proved his inabilty last year in gaining short yardage. Barber is relentless...hence his slowing down in recent years. If anything Taylor and Forte are more similar, especially with the belief both catch well out of the backfield.

Not really sure what the alternative to not spending cheap but all the Bears would have ended up doing is getting one maybe two players that cost more as opposed to what they are doing. Don't have to look far to see a player that was paid a lot with little production...his name, Haynesworth. Heck Taylor got $7 Mil of his $12.5 Mil last year and see what he did for them? And I even like the guy.

Goal line back?

Considering that Forte isn't very good against the goal line, a short yardage back who is actually effective would have made a big difference last year. The FO was addressing a need here.

Now the coaching staff just has to actually use the guys that way.

At this point there is no reason to cut Taylor. We might as well let all the RBs compete for the 3rd spot, or is it 2nd spot with Barber being short yardage specialist. We'll see. At least the FO has seen the need for a solid short yardage back and made a couple moves to try to address it with Unga and now Barber.
