madlithuanian
We HAVE to kick the tires on him, no? http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/_/id/6...ode-source-says
BearsFan1974
We HAVE to kick the tires on him, no? Absolutely, I'm saying a 1year with an option, by far not a multi-year deal. After all he is 32.
madlithuanian
Works for me... Putting Garza in for Louis would be an upgrade. What do you do with Spencer who is playing pretty good in the games and is making a few dollars for the Bears right now.

Roll with both? one has to pan out you would think.
lemonej
Roll with both? one has to pan out you would think. I understand you are saying that he is to be added for depth purposes but,I see that Spencer has not been able to crack the lineup since he arrived at TC and Gourode would be hard pressed to pick it up in what realistically will be about 10 days before the season opener. I still hold out hope that the Bears send the same message that they sent to Johnny Knox to Lance Lois and demote him for Spencer/Garza. BearFan2000
I say pick him up, start him at C, Spencer would be a backup with starting experience who is a natural C. Move Garza back to Guard and now we have some good depth at the center position.
madlithuanian
Yes, but I actually do think Garza did OK. He generally holds his own. he's no pro bowler, but he's decent. Looking back, do you think Garza looked like crap because Olin lost a step?

madlithuanian
If Garoude is bad then pass...but I don't get that vibe. Put him in, move garza to Louis's spot. Keep Spencer as a back-up or rotation. I like more options on the OL than we currently have. It's a long season... He's 32. We had that in Kreutz. Again I will state that how long does it take to get all of the Bears protections, line adjustments on blitzes etc.? If it takes 10 days fine then sign him and make it 4 guys on the roster that can play center but no one to play RG.

Everyone knows all a center has to do is hike the ball and block the guy in front of him. The only reason Spencer isn't starting yet is because he sucks - and not because playing center in this offense is particularly complicated and carries a great deal of responsibility. Bears4Ever_34
If they were reluctant to put Spencer in the starting lineup even before training camp started because they feared he wouldn't have enough time to learn our blocking schemes, there is no way we go out and sign another FA center 3 weeks into the preseason-- much less as a starter. Sarcasm or not, my friend who is a diehard Seahawks fan thought it was hilarious that the Bears picked up Spencer. He mentioned that Spencer had a hard enough getting starts on the Seahawks, and asked if we were up for another Rick Mirer trade. I don't view that as a very good sign. GrizzlyBear
Well they had a First rate center on the roster. Plaus cheaper then spencer. Natural for them to cut the expensive when a solid is alrady on the team. We dont have that luxary and fully expected for Olin to be back. Desperation makes for hasty descisions.
