Bears cut

The Bears waived 14 players Friday, including guard Johan Asiata, fullback Eddie Williams, wide receivers Andy Fantuz and Onrea Jones, and linebacker Chris Johnson.

The group also included nine undrafted rookies: Linebackers Tressor Baptiste and Deron Minor, cornerbacks Antareis Bryan and Ryan Jones, tackle Josh Davis, punter Spencer Lanning, defensive end Jake Laptad, center Alex Linnenkohl, and receiver Jimmy Young.

The only player waived Friday who has played in a regular-season game for the Bears is Asiata, who appeared in the first two contests last year.

The Bears still must cut 13 more players by 5 p.m. Saturday to reach the NFL’s 53-man roster limit.

Not a huge surprise, but with the recent Briggs news it might be smart to keep an extra LB around. Also, with the not-so-recent flaws on the OL, it might be smart to keep a promising, young Center around.

How the once mighty have fallen....

Injury just simply shortened his career.

I give him props for how he left Chicago (thanking the fans with a full page ad in the papers and calling Henry Melton to wish him luck).

Unfortunately, I believe he is done.

Peace :dabears

In the last 10 years, only two undrafted rookie free agents have stuck around to make any kind of impact.

The Chicago Bears look like they will carry five of them on their 53-man roster when final cuts are due at 5 p.m.

The club has not made any formal announcement, but according to a variety of NFL sources, the team is down to 54 players right now. It's unknown if a decision has been made on the final spot, but multiple sources say the front office is considering placing rookie linebacker J.T. Thomas, a sixth-round pick from West Virginia, on injured reserve with a back issue.

The Bears informed three veterans they will be let go. Running back Chester Taylor, tight end Desmond Clark and defensive tackle Marcus Harrison are headed out. Clark was re-signed at the start of training camp. He spent the last eight seasons with the team.

The Bears informed running back Robert Hughes, wide receiver Kris Adams, tight end Andre Smith, guard Ricky Henry, offensive tackle Levi Horn, defensive tackle Jordan Miller, linebacker Patrick Trahan and safety Anthony Walters they will be waived.

That makes 54 players on the roster with JT thomas. So it looks like 5 UFA's made the team.

Roach is way to verisitile to let go , he plays all 3 positions, Iwuh has been a standout on ST, Plus he played the weakside for Briggs pretty good. As for DeCico, he is making the same transision that Url made. He was a safety moving to MLB, 6' 4" 230. I want to see him put on about 20 lbs and get some playtime, he maybe the solution to replacing Url when he retires.

I'm surprised we're keeping 5 UDFAs.

There is no way the Bears keep Reed and Addison on the roster for the entire year. My guess is that Reed is the better player right now stays and Addison, reportedly a better athlete who needs more time to develop, heads to the practice squad once the Bears sign a backup LB.

Also, one thing I didn't realize was that after the first week of the season teams can sign veterans w/ 4 years experience to a non-guaranteed contract. At this point I don't think the Bears have any interest in any veteran Oline so we can take that off the table. Definitely backup LB help is needed. This DeCicco experiment is just that, an experiment that is best done on the practice squad. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bears doing something at safety, or CB.

Did we really keep a FB? What's up with that? Seriously, this is Mike Martz running the offense. Will he even be active on game day? I'll be watching to see how this plays out in week 1.
