balta1701-A
Why the Pats let him go? A Mississippi man has been charged with raping a woman at the home of Bears’ safety Brandon Meriweather, according to the Sun Chronicle in Attleboro, Mass. The report says James Roberts, 29, of Biloxi, Miss. allegedly raped the woman July 13 at the safety’s residence in Foxboro, Mass. He pleaded innocent during his Aug. 25 arraignment. Meriweather has not been charged with a crime. The safety was released by the Patriots Sept. 3 and signed with the Bears the next day. It’s unclear whether this incident had anything to do with his release. Meriweather was questioned by Orlando police in March after a shooting but was not charged. In 2006, he was involved in a shooting in Miami, but was not charged in that incident either.
BearsFan1974
Why the Pats let him go? These things sometimes happen when you include your friends growing up and involve them in your success. Life isn't always like Entourage. See Iverson. Doug Plank
Belichick. You knew there was something up. Even if he's not involved, other than hosting a guest who's an alleged rapist, you can understand why the Pats wouldn't want the stain of this hanging around. And it's not like the guy hasn't run into trouble in the past. Here's to hoping he can keep his shit together while he's with the Bears. Pixote
First, did the guy actually rape the woman? Second, did Meriweather know that the assault, if it was rape, was going on, could he have stopped it from happening? Third, was this friend of his known for this type of behavior in the past, should he have known better to even associate with him? It is hard to be judgmental of Meriweather without knowing all of the facts. I know he has had issues in the past but this may be a non-issue. I agree it may be a non-issue, but it's concerning based on his history. There's rumors Meriweather was cut from NE because of his "entourage." If the same story involved someone like Peanut for example, I wouldn't give it a second thought. He has a great reputation off the field. With Meriweather there's the concern that he's surrounded himself with bad guys who do bad things. That typically bites a guy in the ass eventually. Either way it's not a big deal since Meriweather wasn't involved, but it is concerning.
