Connorbear
I would assume not. I would like to see Forte come in for a couple of plays just to get 1000 yards but I don't see any reason to play either of them other than that. CubbiesFan07
The bigger question is will Forte return in general. Being franchised will only make him more disgruntled and want to sign with a different team when he becomes a FA. I can't understand why a franchise, who is so cheap, won't pay one of the top 3 RB overall in the league the money they deserve. Sure, don't give a max contract to Johnny Knox just because he's considered your #1 WR, but for a RB that would be the top 2 or 3 players on any team in the league? Come on. Frustrating. This franchise is not cheap when it comes to players. Look at the money given out to Url, Peppers, Cutler, Bennett, Briggs, etc... They made an offer and Forte did not accept it. They have the right to franchise him if they can't come to an agreement. It has nothing to do with being cheap. Peace
selection7
A runningback's carreer is a short one. If we franchise Forte twice (can franchising still be done twice?) then Forte will be finishing his sixth year. A lot of great runningbaks have started a steep decline right about that time. It's unfortunate for us Forte got hurt. If he hadn't we might be going to the playoffs with Jay about to return. But then what would be worse is if JA had paid Forte like a perennially durable back who does everything and is a great runner (hey, I just described Sweetness!) when that's not the production he gave us. As you said, he'll have to play next week just to get 1000 yards. JA took a risk Forte wouldn't hold up that production all year, whether it be by injury or just a production dip, and it paid off. In fact, both happened. Forte's last 3 games before getting hurt were statistically unimpressive. In the stock market you want to buy low and sell high. JA giving in to Forte at midseason would have been buying very high, considering Forte's career up to this point.

balta1701-A
Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith confirmed Jay Cutler will have pins removed from his right thumb Tuesday, but it’s highly unlikely the quarterback will return to play in Sunday’s season finale at Minnesota. In fact, Smith said he is looking forward to seeing Josh McCown play again after the 32-year-old journeyman helped spark the Bears to a season-high 441 yards of offense in Sunday’s 35-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Smith said even though the Bears (7-8) have been eliminated from contention for the NFC playoffs, he will play the players who give the team the best chance to win Sunday in the interest of ending a five-game losing streak, the longest since the team lost eight straight in 2002. With that goal in mind, would he use Cutler and running back Matt Forte, who has missed three straight games now with a sprained MCL in his right knee? “If they are healthy and ready to go, we won’t tell them no,” Smith said. “But there are some other guys we feel comfortable playing. They are making progress. Again, if we had other things on the line, we would take the same approach. Never would stop a player that wanted to play that was healthy and really ready to go and I don’t know if that will be the case.” After Smith confirmed Cutler will have the pins out, he was asked whether Cutler would practice this week, given that he couldn't play without practicing first. “I can’t really go any further than that,” Smith said. “That was part of the original plan, for him to take that next step as far as his rehab goes. He’s right on schedule.” Link
