What is our draft status now?

That is true, but you can rest starters in the 2nd half and give some younger guys a chance at some reps. With nothing to play for, it would be a good time to evaluate some of the younger players (Enderle?)

Also, actually the Carolina pick is the 10th for the 3rd round since the teams with the same record cycle the picks. They have the 9th in the first, 8th in the second, and the 10th in the third. So we lose there a well, lol.

So there were 7 teams that finished 8-8. How does it rotate each round? I would assume 1 of those 7 rounds we will be picking 1st out of those 7 teams. Please confirm.

Thanks,

Jay

I wanted them to lose but here's the thing - there was no way the coaches and players were going out there and not trying to win. We're drafting 19. No use worrying about it now.

A positive note is Carolina lost and we have the 9th pick in the third round from them.

Peace :dabears

But they could have made the excuse that they were evaluating some of the young guys. They could have started Enderle, put Decico in, all the scrubs.. Which of course we didn't do because our dumb ass coach thinks a win would end the season "on a good note". My ass.

Jay,

You move up one position per round until you get to the first pick of your record, then you go to the back. So we pick 19th in the first, 18th in the second, 17th in the third, 16th in the fourth, 15th in the fifth, 14th in the sixth, and 13th in the seventh. So 19, 50, 74 (from CAR), 81, 112, 143, 174, 205.

General Managers and Owners look at the bigger picture and have authority over the Head Coach. You're not telling them to go out and tank games, you are putting lesser talented players on the field to simply "Get a look". I don't get what part of this you guys don't understand. Teams do this from time to time when it's the last week of the season with nothing to play for and you've got some banged up superstar players. You take them out and put in their subs to see what you've got for next year.

General Managers certainly do and they have power over the head coaches. You're not telling them to go out and tank games, you are putting lesser talented players on the field to simply "Get a look", thus most likely leading to a loss. This goes back to what me and LT was debating a few posts ago. Lovie has the security of an extension in this organization that has never fired a coach with money owed.So he really is not handcuffed by what JA would say in regards to who to play and who to sit. Since Martz's pick to tutor at QB was Enderle and he was inactive or the emergency QB, the rumors about him being out the door may have some merritt. This is actually going to be an offseason when what LT was trying to get across to this old Dinosaur may play out. Lovie versus JA. With Martz being on the bubble and clearly Lovie's choice for OC a couple of years ago against JA's wishes, will Lovie demand that Martz be resigned or will JA insist on allowing Tice who has signed an extension to take over with the Idea of protecting Cutler better and utilizing some bigger OL and show what he is learned since his failed HC tenure. The negative in this situationis that Tice never has called plays on offense.

That's one way of viewing it. Another way would be that because of that security, a loss isn't going to make or break his tenure with the Bears. It's not like another loss all of a sudden means he's out as head coach. Although I wouldn't mind it ;). I do think Lovie will push to have Martz resigned but it's not going to be an ultimatum sort of deal where its either him or me. That would be pretty ballsy of Lovie to do something like that and frankly I don't think he has it in him to force the hand of his GM. I'm not a fan of having Tice come in to be the OC. Cutler has already let it be known he'd like Martz back and I think that will play a role in his resigning but ultimately it comes down to whether or not Angelo offers Martz that pay raise he believes he's worth. If I had to guess I'd say he doesn't and I'm not even sure if Martz wants to come back. He may explore other coaching venues whether it be in the NFL or college. He comes off as the type of guy who likes to be wanted. I'm not sure he's got that here in Chicago because like you said, it was Lovie not Angelo that wanted him here to begin with.

Thanks. And we know everything after the third round will be adjusted by compensatory draft picks.

Maybe if they were smart they would. Knowing you can't make the playoffs this year should make you think about how you can make the playoffs, or have a better chance of going deep in the playoffs, next year.

Nobody likes to lose, but sometimes it pays to think forward and plan ahead for the long haul. It's about the war, not the battle.
