Bears looking at Ruskell

this organization is stupid as hell and does not care about winning imo. This is the stupidest thing i have heard in a while.

An organization that is run by an elderly woman and an accountant. Do you really believe that football decisions are being made.

Besides that, sources have also said that Bears coach Lovie Smith -- who will have a hand in this process -- isn't necessarily searching for one of the big-name prospects as much as he's looking for someone he's comfortable with and can trust.

This should scare everyone.

your link is broken. try this one: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...,0,775292.story

is it me or does t-t-t-ted, the brain, phillips look like rasputin or possibly a blood sucking vampire trying not to feed off of curious george while on camera?

anyway, at least we got cliff stein helping t-t-t-ted the brain in his search for a GM. they had me worried for a minute that there was absolutely no-one who had a clue about the game of football looking for our general manager.

Dan Pompei - "All was quiet Saturday on the Bears' general manager search, and no interviews are scheduled for Sunday."

"The Bears are not moving with any urgency in the process, which is in direct contrast to the Raiders, who already have hired a candidate the Bears wanted to interview in Reggie McKenzie, and the Colts, who plan on having seven general manager interviews complete by the end of the day Monday."

silly colts. don't they know haste makes waste? they should model themselves off of our president of football operations and really take your time to get it right. after all, what is six months when you are making this important of a decision.

Sadly, this is all par for the course since Papa Bear's departure...

Wow....firing one a$$ clown and replacing him with another. Just fire everyone and start the rebuilding process. No one who had anything to do with this current roster should be in football. Throw in a few ex cowboys to the list as well

Well, it's not the worst point in the world...right now, teams can stop the bears from interviewing their staff, even for promotions, if they're in the playoffs. You want a guy on the staff of a playoff team, you probably have to wait a few weeks.

No chance of moving forward with the people in charge that are in charge. George is leaving a lot to be desired and I have never thought t.t.t. The Brain Philips should have ever been put in charge of this team. Worst part is that George apparently met with Rocky Wirtz and John McDonough about how they fostered the turn around at the U.C. and watching the Cubs make drastic changes on the North Side with bringing in Theo Epstein et al to change things there. I so wish that Mugs was still around for us as well. Unfortunately it was not in the cards for us to have Mugs still here and Papa Bear could not last forever as much as we would have liked. the G.M. position has become a joke at Halas Hall since they got rid of Jerry Vainisi and if they promote Ruskell we are still dealing with a Jerry Angelo clone who is just as inept IMHO. We need to get rid of Ted and Lovie and find someone who is worth a damn. Hell if Oakland was able to hire McKenzie before the Packers are out of the playoffs, when in the hell couldn't we get an interview with him or someone else who is with a caliber playoff team? Because Philips is dragging his heals and the McCaskey family still has its collective heads so far up their back-ends they are not able to see how much further this is going to set back this once proud franchise.

I am not saying for one minute that Ruskell would be my 1st choice for GM, but just because he was brought in by Angelo and many on the forum wanted him "gone" that does not mean this guy is a total waste of consideration. He actually has a pretty damn good track record, much better than Angelo before he was given his maiden chance at a GM position.

Not bad at all, and continuity is always good, especially if, as many of you say, Smith will only last 1 more year (I disagree)

Let's put it this way, if you are right and Smith will only last one more year, the replacements many of us would love to have come in would want combined HC/GM duties and by hiring Ruskell it would be no problem dumping him and giving someone, a high profile HC/GM, a contract.

If, on the other hand, you hired a high profile GM to a big contract and next year we wanted to replace Lovie, many of the best HC candidates with experience would not be hired for "financial" reasons because of big $$ due the GM hired. Hiring Ruskell would allow us the opportunity of hiring a big name HC/GM if warranted.

After reading this,I feel a lot better about him as a personal guy. Everything you said makes sense. He has a much better track record that Jerry. He is here already and just have to give him a boost in pay and a title. Who any good (gm prospects) would want to walk in a situation where eveybody could be gone next year. We all think he is a Jerry clone because Jerry bought him here, not the case.

Just read about two more names that sound interesting. Les Snead, is PPD in Atlanta,Dimtrof right hand man.(good drafts since taking over)

Also Steve Kiem PPD for Cardinals.(check out his drafting, pretty good)

And now for some comic relief.

Bear fan A: This team is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.

Bear fan B: What do you mean, "biblical"?

Bear fan C: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath of God type stuff.

Bear fan A: Exactly.

Bear fan D: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!

Bear fan E: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...

Bear fan C: The dead rising from the grave!

Bear fan A: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

How about we relax and wait to see how this plays out.

Peace :dabears

Good points Pix.

Ruskell represents pretty much the status quo with hopefully a better draft.

If not, then the re-set button is in full effect next season or 2.

Hopefully, if they do go Ruskell, it's for 2 years matching Smith....or a small dollar amount in order to cut bait if needed.

I'm with Fan A...he's obviously Bill Murray. ;)

Agreed.

However, it is hard to just accept that all is well, when we've seen what we've seen. Georgie Boy has in one stroke become savior, and by lack of another become all that is wrong... It will be interesting. But, then again, it's an ancient Chinese curse that one live during interesting times...
