Steve Hutchinson to be released?

According to PFT there is a possiblity that SH could be a cap hit. Old , but could he be Ruben Brown?

This is a complicated one. If the long term plan were to move Williams back to LT, then he could give you a 1-2 year bridge to a guard drafted this year. But that's a lot of steps that have to happen for this to make sense.

Wasn't this guy hurt for the past two years? But if he gets hit in the head again he will be through. Like Hunter Hillenmeyer he will have to sit.

Concusions could be an issue, but we dont know that right now. Take a chance if others OL upgrades fall thru and base contract on playing time.

I wouldn't complain about this as long as we have a strong plan B and we're willing to pull the plug quickly if he sucks. (When Orlando Pace goes into the HOF, I wonder how his season with the Bears will be included).

Hutchinson is still a damn good player, and IIRC, interior OL usually have a nice shelf life in the NFL. If he can play 2-3 more years at a high level and Grubbs is too expensive, the Bears should at least make a call.

Agreed. What kills me is we seem like all our o-lineman. Pompeii reports we're sticking with J Webb & he can be the answer at LT. Carimi's #1 pick. Tice drools over Louis & C Williams at guard. We love Garza & gave Spencer 6 million.

If we were going to play C Williams at tackle, we'd have done it last year. Seemingly the only o-line position we need is a guy to push Carimi & J Webb. How can we like our guys so much and our line be so bad?

I agree, how many times can we roll the dice and let Cutler die out there. We need to add a guard and tackle, one each in FAgency and one in the first three rounds of the draft. We at least need some options if those starters fail.

Beats the shit out of me. I think everyone on this board knows my stance on the subject. Hutchinson, Grubbs, Nicks, everyone else, should be at least an option. There is no way anyone who understands football can be all that impressed with anyone on the Bears' OL last year. Least of which is obviously Webb, who shouldn't be starting in the NFL. We have a G at C (Garza), a C at G (Spencer), a G at T (Louis), and a T at G (Williams). IDK WTF Tice and the coaches are looking at unless someone in the management chain has simply said that they are not going to spend on OL in the draft or FA. Simply put, building the OL into a cohesive strength of the team amplifies the value of every single skill position moreso than the other way around. And it makes the team's franchise guy (Cutler, not Forte), safer. It's simple yet so difficult for them to comprehend. There's a reason why the Bears offense hasn't really scared anyone in quite some time.
