In years past JA brought guys in to visit and never took them. Is that a common theme around the NFL? Wondering if Phil works the same way? I know an interview could turn them on or off depending how the interview goes. How much stock goes into bringing a guy into to interview? Also would you want to tip your hand which way you are leaning???? If you are 100% on taking a DT or DE would you want to let everyone else know by bringing in a bunch of DT or DE??? Then lets say a DE or DT is going to be there at 19 and everyone knows you are going DT or DE, another team wanting that DE or DT could then trade up in front of the Bears to take that DE or DT.

It is a good year for DT/DE, so I imagine a lot of teams will be disproportionate in regards to the number they bring in.

Bottom line, I think there is at least 1 player from every position on the team coming to visit except for QB, P, & K.

Once you get past the first 2 picks...the draft is so difficult to predict that teams have to have a list of (for example) 7 guys they'd consider choosing between, and then other options should someone like Aaron Rodgers drop or should all 7 of your guys be picked. Those "bring in and never take" people can be done for a number of reasons...actually wanting to draft a guy, smokescreen, but the one thing you can definitely say is that you're getting more information on a guy. That information may not always be positive. You may bring a guy in wanting him to step up and show you something new and he doesn't do it.

I like the multiple angles this thread has taken already. We will know after this draft if Emery is a guy who brings in people to evaluate or brings in people to blow smoke.

I think with bringing in so many players kind of hard to pin point who someone will draft. Also after bringing someone in, they might not end up liking him. Interviews and workouts could work against some prospects.

I have noticed in the past that a lot of guys the Bears have drafted under Lovie have been personally visited and worked out by Lovie or his staff. So if we could find out the guys he and his position coaches have personally gone to visit(think Texas) and we may have a shot at guessing who may be coming here on draft day.

Tells me we targeted a speed rusher in round #1 and never serioiusly considered other positiouns. Of the guys we looked at, Bruce Irvin and Melvin Ingram are similar to McCllellin in they are too small for our scheme. Then there is Donta' Hightower who is comparable to those three as a big edge rushing linebacker.

Either way, this was a well thought out plan on our part. We decided early on that it was worth spending the 19th pick on a situational pass rusher.
