McShay's Final Mock

Take it FWIW, but McShay has the Bears taking Hightower at 19 OVER Coples who goes #20.

McShay states in the opening paragraph he based his final picks on talking to scouts/personel around the league.....for him to predict Hightower over Coples to the Bears is surprising.

I will say this- I want Emery to draft who he wants and not who Lovie/Tice/Marinelli want. If he feels Hightower can be Urlacher's eventual successor then let Emery do his job and make that pick.

There is no way the Bears take an inside LB in the 1st round of the draft when it's likely that a defensive lineman will be there for them at 19 who they like. SLB isn't that important in a Lovie Smith type scheme anyways. All they're asked to do is to launch themselves into the LOS and stuff run plays while the MLB and WLB get in for the tackle. Usually your Hightower isn't your prototypical size for a SAM either. Normally they are slightly bigger than safeties. Hightower is a big boy.

I agree with you, however....they may play less Cover 2 (they've played less and less every year) and this could be Emery's pick as Hightower would be his MLB of the future.

I don't think they'll take Hightower.....but McShay heard this from somewhere.

Emery also said that in rounds #1 and #2, you hope to draft guys who will start immediately. The only way Hightower starts is if we either cut Urlacher or if there are injuries. I have no problem drafting his eventual replacement in round #3.

Hightower is not even a great "value" pick at this point. If he was projected top 10 and fell, that would be one thing.
