What veterans get dropped?

Is there any vets that could get dropped during training camp due to roster additions?

I will throw out there that the (Devin Package) could be a ticket out of town.

We added several WR prospects.

We added several KR prospects.

He makes a lot of money for a 4th WR and a KR specialist

I think they ask him to take a pay cut and have the additions to release him or trade him.

It is not that I would like this move but with his cap hit this year is 7.6 mil and 12.8 next year and 10.5 mil. is roster bonuses and 3.5 in salary that could be dropped. , I see this as potenially happening. We would save a ton of money.

Also I see the possiblity of Spencer being dropped. We have several OC and OG propects, and with his 2.75 salary we could save. He is right now a backup and we have E. Williams and Stehpens that can play center.

Also C. Davis/DE He is set to make 850,000 and we have paid him 13 mil over the last 3 years for what? Has he even played, I dont remember it ,if he did.

HA h ha you are funny......Hester is not going anywhere. Sure we have brought in talent but they are unproven. So you want to get rid of Mr if you give me a little lane and I'm gone to the house" for someone that maybe can do it once in a while....I think not. I see us keeping the same Oline players as last year with the addition of Rachal and maybe Brown. I really see we keep the same players from last years team with the additions of the FA and the top four draft picks. Butt Clutts might not make it.

Until we can use that cash to find a better player I don't see us making any dramatic changes. Hester's contract is going to get rewritten by next offseason. He will never see that kind of cash. He is now our 4th WR, brought in for specialty plays and a great PR, rarely used as KR and we signed Weems to do that. I love the guy and want him around long term but not at that price.

I didnt say I wanted him gone, was looking at the possiblity of that happening. We are playing him a lot of money and at some point that will come into play. He will cost us 20 mil in the next two years, if you dont think they are looking at that, their not doing there job.

I'm not disagreeing with Hester being approached for a renegotiation but , I can't see Lovie being on board with him being cut if he doesn't take a pay cut, since he is big on field position and regardless of how many passes Hester catches, he does flip field position on returns and don't believe for one moment that Hester won't be used on kickoffs. He will be back there with Weems in a pick your poison type of situation on every kickoff. If I remeber correctly Weems is also good at coverage on kicks as a gunner etc. This season will go a long way towards determining if the Bears try and add on one more time for an SB run. They have to be at least in the NFC Championship for them to feel okay about paying aging veterans for one more SB run.

Just curious, but where are you getting these contract numbers? They are nowhere near reality. You must be looking at his contract as if he achieved all his performance escalators as a number 1 receiver - and he has not achieved them.

The website is Spotrac and it lists all contract info. In his contract for 2012 his salary is 1.65 and roster bonus is 5 mil, 2013 his salary is 1.85 and roster bonus is 5 mil. So that is 13.5 with .5 in workout bonuses , and you have to pay him 14 over the next two years, no matter what incentive bonuses dont kick in. I think for a punt returner, and 4th WR that is a little rich. Marshall is going to make 20 mill over the next two years as a #1. The average of his salary over the length of the contract lists him as the 4th highest paid WR in the league. Has that been worth his ST TDS? and his WR contribution. If you go by his cap hit for this year, he is ranked 11th, so basically do the Bears find that to be a worth it valve? I think they redo his contract, with all the additions to KRers and WRers.

Hester did get a $5 million roster bonus this year, but that has been paid already. (roster bonuses hit near the start of the league year so if a player is released because of it they can hit free agency while there is money out there) The major sticky wicket is the $10 million "deescalating" roster bonus for next year. How that works is that if he didn't make certain performance levels as a WR, that $10 mil number decreases all the way down to nothing. It's also worth noting that they inaccurately list Hester as getting: Roster Bobus: $5 million per year when he only gets them in years 2 and 3.
