How tall is too Tall?

I was surprised not at his height but his bulk. Usually players his height look a lot leaner. Sounds like he can block, can he run routes and catch? Perfect practice squad candidate for this year. If Kellen Davis doesn't step up he might find an opportunity next season, or possibly replacing Spaeth.

He said that at 6'10 and 290 he loves to block.......sounds like a guy we can use to groom for the future. This guy could be like and extra tackle in the run game and would be a strong mismatch with the little crossing or flat routes against the way shorter LB. So who can we let go to add Villanueva? I say the ones in bold are ones that we might drop to add him if he shows something in camp.

Adams, Kyle TE 6-4 255 Purdue

Davis, Kellen TE 6-7 267 Michigan State

Rodriguez, Evan TE 6-2 244 Temple R 23

Ross, Draylen TE 6-4 271 North Texas

Spaeth, Matt TE 6-7 260 Minnesota

Venson, Brandon TE 6-3 245 Illinois State

I'd like to see some film on him. At his height, pad level and knee bend are crucial. Also like to see if there is any burst.

As for his time in the 40, Villanueva has heard people joke that he is timed with a calendar, but notes proudly he has gotten his time under 4.8 seconds.

'Why would you take a 6-foot-10 offensive tackle and move him to wide receiver?' " (Army Coach)Ellerson said, mimicking the questioners. "The answer is, every time he stands up, he's open."

the more I read about this kid the more I hope he makes the team. If he was offered a rugby scholarship and he was in the army that tells me the kid is tough as nails ands thats usually whats questioned about big tall guys is how fragile is he?

and heres some sort of combine type video that makes him look really good

and heres some game tape

seriously hope the guy catches on, he could be a monster! No way teams can defend against him, Davis, Marshall, and Jefferey in the end zone

1. He looks stiff and slow in the workout video. However, for 6'10" he looks pretty damn fast. I was also impressed with his hands; they appear to be fairly soft and reliable.

2. He looks strong, but most of the time he's blocking LBs. I'd love to see what he can do attempting to chip block or isolate on a DE. As Mongo said, height and pad level becomes important at that point.

Thanks for posting those vids.

The dude is seriously tall. I'd love to see him develop and become a target in the end zone.

I'm very impressed with how he adjusts to the ball and going low on those end zone catches in practice was impressive for such a tall guy. That showed up in game tape against Iowa State where he adjusted his route and came behind the DB to make a catch. He is not very quick off the line, not very fast overall but neither is Spaeth. Can he block at the NFL level? He is someone to watch in camp.

Judging from the link I posted you'd think he'd be an adequate enough vlocker for an NFL TE. By that (if you didnt read the article) I mean he was an Olineman the year before he played WR/TE and he said he was surprised by the move because he was the best guy on the line. Also Spaeths 40 time is 4.83, Ali said he got his under 4.8. So all things considered I hope he can beat out Spaeth as I dont think Matts that good and with Tice in charge of the O itd be nice to give him 2 monster TEs to work with.

Hell sign this guy up......given that you were "impressed with his hands; they appear to be fairly soft and reliable" he can't be any worst than the one's we have now. Just picture Marshall, Jeffrey, Davis and this kid in the red zone.......hell yeah what a mismatch for the defense! :cheers

the problem is the roster is full and they did not sign him , the tryouts are over and he didnt make it, no matter how tall he is.

HA that maybe true today but watch and see who we let go to give him a spot. I bet the big E and company are locked deep in a room somewhere looking at how we can add him to the roster. As a matter of fact didnt we sign two kickers and another QB? Watch what I say one of them will be gone shortly

How hilariously unfair would it be if we ran out Brandon Marshall (6'4) Alshon Jeffery (6'3) Kellen Davis (6'7) and this guy at 6'10 on the goal line.

To steal a line from Darryl Drake, they'd be "picking peanuts" off the heads of Corner backs and safeties.

I love the archives sometimes. This comment made me laugh because the only person the ball could be thrown to would be Marshall.

Jeffery would push off or get hurt.

Davis would drop the ball.

The 6'10" guy would be completely lost.

And Drake wouldn't have known how to coach them if his life depended on it.
