adam Posted December 31, 2012 Report Share Posted December 31, 2012 We went 1-5 in 6 straight games vs playoff teams. He should be fired for that alone, not for beating up on teams with 5 or less wins. Our schedule turned out to be super easy this year. All we needed was to go 2-4 in that 6 game stretch to make the playoffs and we didn't. We lost back to back games vs Division opponents. IMHO, This is an organization run by a 90+ year old grandmother, who empowered the company CFO to make football decisions. Acting like this is a slam dunk to replace Lovie is not the case. The worse case scenario is he is brought back. We get another offensive coordinator or at minimum, Bates is let go as the sacrificial lamb. Tice is empowered for another year and we draft another small defensive specialist in the first round. 5.5 million is a lot of money for the family to let go. Especially when the owner likes Lovie. And I'm not going to pretend that Emery is gods gift to GM's yet. I don't necessarily trust him to make the right hire. I think he'd be more likely to hire an unproven guy as it providers him with more security. Hiring a proven guy puts more pressure on him as a proven guy will no matter what get more authority then an unproven guy. I hope I'm wrong but I really don't think of Emery as a GM. I think of him as a pro football operation guy. Angelo was about the only GM this franchise ever had and even he stopped being that when Lovie got his fat extension after the superbowl. The biggest glaring comment that he has made most recently that if I was Phil Emery I would have s$*t canned Smith's A$$ was two week ago. How anyone is able to dismiss a game against the freakin cheese heads saying that it was not a must win game should instantly be fired. If we got 2-14 and the two wins are against the freakin cheese heads, to a degree it is a successful season. To have two seasons in a row that the team started out 7-1 or as it was I believe stated in the Tribune, that in 2011 & 2012 going 14-4 and then collapsing to miss the playoffs both years should be more than enough to have Smith fired. We'll see how much power and how big Emery's balls are very quickly. Smith needs and should be fired however, I am inclined to agree with most everyone in that Smith unfortunately will be back for another year. If I was in charge, Smith would have been canned on December 17th at the latest with either Tice or Marinelli finishing out the season and now that it is done, the rest of the staff would be shown the door. God help us all until Virginia passes and we ideally get a new owner who may get it better than Papa Bear's family attempts to at this point. I could care less about GB if we are going deep into the playoffs every year. However, if we can't beat them, we won't get very far. A season cannot be deemed a success unless you make the playoffs, and once you reach that level you have to take the next step. IMO, the Bears never recovered from the SB loss. But the Super Bowl comes with an asterisk if you not only don't win the head to head matchups with them in the regular season but also lose the division. ...best team in the league...but second best in your division. Not cool. In a sense, that's not just a hypothetical, though the roles were reversed. If you remember, the year the pack won the SB, we actually won the division. They can say it doesn't bother them, but I haven't forgotten, and it makes it worth a little less when you know you left something for your rivals to hang their hat on. Just as importantly, Lovie came into Chicago with his first goal to beat Green Bay. He started off great, but these days he rarely beats them. Acceptable if we were contending for Super Bowls, but we're not, so what's he left with? If that's your goal, then you'd better have some level of success at it. Simple as that.
